So this goes for all you guitar players who are slightly above average. I been trying to trying to figure out this weezer cover done acoustic on yourtube and i cant figure out which chords he is using around the chorus. I was just going to throw this out thjere and maybe someone can offer me some help.i believe its from 0.43 - 0.53 and the ending chords i am trying to figure out at 2.32 - 2.35.

Its a fairly new weezer song called If youre wandering if i want you too. i know the first chord he is using is a Dmaj 7 but after that i am kind of lost. so heres the vid link. enjoy
awsome cover btw

Do you know the verse?

I really don't like the guitarist... Not sure why...

Love Weezer though. I can probably figure it out.

Is it just one chord? Timestamp?

The second chord looks like a Bm7... Something like 7x777x, 7x707x, or something like that. Then he moves the octave, or whatever is on the G string down in half steps to go back to the Dmaj7, D7, then the next chord. I don't have a guitar with me... so I don't know if this is right.

Then he goes into something like an Em7 (02003x) or some variation of that, into a.. A6? (54003x). These chords look kinda right. Try to play around with them. You'll get it eventually, lol.

D 2 0 0 2 3 2
B 0 2 4 4 3 2
G 3 2 0 0 3 3

i appreciate the effort. Thats a start w the chord but thats not exactly what i am looking for. I was looking for the jazz chords hes using as his version differs from the power chord progression in the link

like fakesteve said, it's a musical instrument.
not "look what i can do on the guitar".
if you're going to put effort in covering songs, might as well change your outlook on the guitar, and actually understand music.
once you do this, transcribing music becomes much easier.

but whatever floats your boat.

e-x
B-7
G-6
D-7
A-5
E-x

lol tabs

just play around till you get the chord..you could prob just use a program to slow it down and then tune your notes to match the cords notes and bam you know the chord..

or just use your ears.

I listened to the studio version and I'm pretty sure they play only 1 chord throughout the whole prechorus and it sounds like a D5 to me. Having said that, what you are playing now works fine so I don't think you need to change it.

Or are you referring to another version of the song?

This sounds like the ultimate guitar forums. Those of you "guitar jocks" making fun of this guy just for trying to learn this song need to relax. The guy doesn't want to learn it by ear and have a rough estimate of the chords, he wants an exact way to play it like this video so it sounds nice to him.

Some of us just want to play music that sounds appealing to us, then throw our own little twist on it. There is NOTHING wrong with looking up tabs or covering tabs at this stage of learning the guitar. Also, this song has slightly modified chords, its not just "PLAY A D" alot of the times.

Relax. Help the guy or just don't post if its not going to be constructive.

Not a fan of that guy's haircut

He plays the augmented 7th differently, not sure what his exact fingering is. If you're not familiar with fingering the Bm7, try to follow how he does it in the video

the last post has got it right that is the best answer (it should have been the first) and its right but its helpful to learn to "read fingers" ( see the fingers of someone playing in videos and to copy them) its faster than tabs and it will make things much easier..

lol at the ones that say do it by ear...

It's very useful to be able to learn songs by ear. If you're able to find the key then you should be able to find the notes, and from there it's a matter of trying find what chord was played in what shape. I think it's well worth trying to figure out songs that way, and it's definitely a valuable skill to learn

You're just being a musical snob. I don't see anything wrong with what he's doing. The first 2 years I spent playing guitar I just practiced scales and looked up tabs of my favorite rock / metal songs to play their riffs and whatnot. Its really fun and you feel like a badass

The third chord he only moves the 9 down to b9, not the whole chord. Also the last chord sounds more like A#11 to me. Overall it would be (slightly changed the Em voicing too):
0------------X------------X------------X------------0------------0
7------------7------------7------------X------------4-------------2
6------------7------------6------------5------------0------------ 4
7------------7------------7------------7------------2------------ 3
5------------X------------X------------X------------X------------0

While there's definitely nothing wrong with playing guitar for fun and doing whatever you want to do, exclusively using tabs and not your ear is a bit like 4gating every zerg you play. After a while you get bored and your game as a whole hasn't improved much.
