I got so caught up in the regrets of the past in the first post that I didn't get to the present. The real reason I wanted to blog in the first place. Maybe I needed to just get the back story out of the way first to move on.

First day of the semester, I was really stoked for it. New things are like that. Total change in my routine. I'll probably be totally overload and worn out in a few weeks, but maybe the change will sustain me. Also, I think most humans have this craving to learn and grow. The thought of filling myself with new knowledge and things I want to learn gives me a great sense of fulfillment.

So what is it I want to learn, well I'm going for a Computer Science degree. Always a skill I've wanted. Something I want to know. Going to be tough, but at least I got all that Calculus out of the way a decade ago. Also, get to take a British Lit class. Sounds dull to some, but I've had a real renaissance of reading in my later years and I thoroughly enjoy reading now.

The full semester Schedule looks like this:

Computer Programming I-Java
Basic Programming(Basically a Visual Basic course)
British Lit I
Chem I w/ the lab

Not many classes, but I'm going slow. Taking the VB course as an elective. It's what they teach non-Computer Science majors when they need to take a programming course, but I figure it wouldn't be bad to learn it, and it beats taking some Art or Hist class as an elective. Taking Java, but probably would have preferred C++ since it seems more relevant and I took a semester(or two) of that before, but they only offered Java at the center near where I live. Brit Lit seems fun if I can get the time to read everything without going crazy. Chem I is required too, but I got to take it. Been dodging Chem for fifteen years since sophomore in high school. Oh well.

First day of class was nothing. Only have Java on MW schedule, and it was just basic get to know you and syllabus day. Didn't even stay the whole time.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Hope having three classes T-Th and working at night doesn't wear me down. Thousands of other people do it all the time. I will do this.

Java and C++ are really similar language, though Java has garbage collection which is awesome!

Hopefully Visual Basic doesn't damage you too much haha...

But GL and HF -Chem shouldn't be too bad either.

Java should be fairly easy if you've already taken a few C++ courses, not too mention you'll have a way better idea of what's going on memory wise then most of your classmates.

Working on my CS degree right now too, cheers

Let me tell you this right now, do not take Java lightly at all. More than anything, Java will turn out to be a living hell somewhat somehow in some parts for some time. If you are going for Computer Science degree, you would be happy to get out of Java asap and move on to C or C++.

Chem shouldn't be too bad, just... watch out for Java....

Why is that?

Now, dealing with multithreading in C using pthreads is an annoyance of no end. Holy shit, holy fucking shit, thanks god I made it through and will have to not deal with it ever again.

C++ is nice for Graphics Computing if you are going to work with OpenGL.

You will wish that Java isnt such a sensitive language to write. But Im still a first year CS student, so noob here. D:

Hopefully, this will devolve into a spirited discussion on the merits of Java vs C++. Never my intention, but I really don't know which is best. It seems some people prefer one over the other, but it always seemed to me that C++ was the way to go, but my choices were limited as to my learning institution right now. My goal is more moving forward above all else.

There is no best programming language. What there are are languages that suits better your needs.
