No, he is not an avid gamer (in fact not a gamer at all), now stop being jealous of me.
Anyways, he has been lacking a mousepad for a few months because the mouse does not work well on the new desk he got. Today he finally decided to buy a real mousepad instead of using his old cardboard, so he went to Bestbuy...
+ Show Spoiler +EDIT: I think I forgot to mention that he previously went to various other places to buy mousepads, but he wasn't impressed with the generic brands those places offer.
When he came back he showed me what he bought - a mousepad from Steelseries for a little bit more than 20 dollars. In case you are not familiar, Steelseries make progaming products and have sponsored numerous foreign BW events (that's how I recognize the brand... good job on the advertisements Steelseries ).
Anyways, when my dad buys something he always goes quality first; price doesn't seem to be too big of a factor for him so long as it is still within "reasonable" range (this usually means going double the price of a generic brand is OK for him). However there is no way he could have known what Steelseries is before he bought it, so he must have based his purchase on visual inspection of worksmanship alone, and he is kind of picky at doing that.
As far as I can tell right now he really likes what he bought. I felt it was a very good product too (maybe a little too expensive for me, though).
Kudos to you, Steelseries, for getting an unexpected customer.

I love that while he is a sucker for quality, he has been using cardboard.
PLOT HOLE.
omg I'm so sorry too much going near the SC forums. Gj dad.

First of all I didn't make it up. However you are right that I did not explain certain things.
The fact of the matter is that he has been very busy; nevertheless he went to several stores for the last month or so to check the mousepads out, but he wasn't impressed with the generic ones he found in walmart and other places. I guess the generic ones are worse than the cardboard.

I used cardboard, more specifically the back of an used up legal pad, for a few months, didn't replace it until it got really really worn down. It was surprisingly comfortable and effective.

I use books as my mousepad. They work surprisingly well.

I use the top of my desk as a mouse pad. Was snipin' mo fos plenty fine in tf2 last night.

I have an old crappy mousepad. I was thinking of buying a Razer mousepad a long time ago, maybe I'll go look up something again.
|
i used my desk too but then it got worn down to the naked wood. So now i have a steel series too - its awesome and like your dad i pay for the quality too your dad is a good dad :D
The thing about amateur mousepads are that they bend, they move around, they have too much friction and they dont have texture for lasermouse.

I have a small steelseries mousepad and a large fat razer mousepad. I love em.

i have an xtracpad it's huge and comfortable. it's very nice

I have a old, crappy, worn, generic mouse pad and I love it. I've tried to replace it with newer more expensive ones, but I always go back. It is at least 6 years old and has pretty bad wear marks from my mouse, but I can't just bring myself to use anything else. I guess it's just the fact that I'm so used to it that anything else just feels weird.

haha, sounds just like my dad, always wanting the highest end stuff, i said i wanted a laptop for college, so ofc, not only did i expect to have to buy it myself, but was gonna get some cheapass one, then boom! he gets me a fucking macbook pro with 8 gigs of ram and max processor speed. so when i was like wtf? thx? why? he was just like, well its a really good computer and since im getting one, we'll just get 2.
anyways, sounds cool, i may get one myself, mine has a hole in the middle >.>

Unfortunately, unlike your dad, my dad looks at the price and picks the highest :/ he believes quality always comes with price. AND TRUST ME I try every time to talk him out of it.

Love steelseries, I have always used their fabric-mousepads, love fabric mousepads.

I have one. My bro works at bestbuy so he got it for like 3 bucks. Retail $15+
I like to exaggerate, but this time I am serious. My skin didn't even make full contact with this hard, steel bar, and instantaneously my wrist and hand set on fire. This mousepad is total bullshit, and probably has radiation in it too.

Pftt, real gamers use pure surfaces.
Mousepads are just another marketing ploy to steal your monies, clearly.
|
lol i too recently bought a 10 dollar Steelseries mousepad!

I went to a SC2 LAN on july 31st and nearly lost my first game because of the mousepads... Then I started playing directly on the table and did really well until I got spanked by the guy who beat SLush.
