So me and a few guys in vent were having a discussion, how many sales do you think (# of copies sold, online, etc.) Starcraft 2 will have upon release?
My guess is that 2.5 million copies will be sold in the first week
Azz - 4.5 million
Redscare - 6 million
Whoever posts on here and gets the closest number, ionno, wins an e-cookie, but this is just a fun little contest we're messing around about here in vent
I'll update this post with more peoples guesses as they come in

It's jsut for fun, whoever is closest lol. I just am interested in seeing what some peoples estimates are. I mean I've never seen a PC game as publicized as Starcraft 2 currently is, and with the following it already has, the 5 month long beta, etc. The publicity is out there, its on the front page of yahoo.com, on espn, other channels. I just think that Starcraft 2 is ready to just break records, lots of records.
So I'm just here to see what some peopel think, and I think it'd be fun for all of us to look back and see who's guesses were close :3
Oh and just as a reference. Halo 3, which was probably one of the biggest midnight release titles of all time, sold 300 million dollars worth of copies worldwide in the first week. Halo 3 is a console game though so a differetn following, and mostly an american game and not as popular wolrdwide as starcraft.
300 million dollars at 60 bucks a copy is 5 million copies sold.
So yes maybe that can be used for reference everyone :D
beta is over... and having every human buy 2 copies... thats very logical guess: ~6 million anyone know how many for sc1 has been sold since its release?

MW2 sold 4.7 million copies on the first 24 hours, but that is a game that was sold on PC, PS3, and Xbox360, also came out in the most marketable time of the year (early November).
SC2 is a game only sold on PC to a just more hardcore/dedicated market in a less marketable period of time. I guess thats why my original guess was 2.5mil, but I expect that number to go up after the holiday season,e tc.
Now that I think about it though I think my 2.5m might be underestimating it somewhat, I can't wait to see :D

somebody put up that starcraft economy pic in sc2 forums which says blizz only expects to sell 5 mil copies total in the first year.
You never know what's gonna happen. After all, Magic the Gathering, when it first came out, sold out in a couple of weeks when the first batch of supply was supposed to last months.

I'd be ashamed of SCII doesn't at least surpass that.
Of course, since SCII is PC only, the sales will be somewhat limited. But I believe.
you guys seem to forget that the potential audience for sc is much much smaller than for some more mainstream genres and titles, not to mention that sc is pc only. ffs its an orthodox rts in an era when games only sell when they have NEXT GEN tags attached to them
you have to count less for south korea than for brood war, because the way they sell blizzard games to PC bangs has changed... They buy hours for the game, not a regular consumer copy itself. Unless they change it to # of subscribers in their statistic keeping =o

If this is true, I am going to say that 2.75 million copies of SC2 will sell within the first week. There are far more console adopters I would say, and FPS is a far more popular genre than RTS. The marketing for MW2 was also fucking ridiculous.
If this were the price is right you'd be sitting there with a fake smile but deep down you'd be glaring at that person who went last who did a dick move
4 more days to release, man I can't wait to hear what the overnight/24 hour sale mark is in the first place lol, since they were giving out beta keys for preorders the amount could be huge
800 preorders in THE AMERICAS ALONE. Expected to reach 2 million hard copy sales, and potentially 1 million more digital sales. Estimates say 10-12 million copies might be sold just by the end of 2010 (5 months)
Looks like a lot of us have been underestimating the whole time, when this has potentials to hit 3-5 million in the first week alone
I know this is about a month long bump but the statistics have come in and it says 1.5m copies sold in the first 2 days, 3 million copies have sold in the first month.
