Lots of people from many different countries here, so I thought I'd ask

I got this feeling my own dear country, Europe in general, are going down the drain. I want to flee this decadent hive of scum and idiocy. Where to?

Requirements: A civilized place, which does not wage war lightly, where not everyone and everything is in debt. Somewhere where people anspire to be something more than a consuming piece of lard watching television.

Singapore perhaps?

New Zealand. Horrible internet, but temperate climate (don't have to switch), English language and overall a good place to live.

I don't know why would you like to leave the Old Continent though. We rule!

That is not Europe in general. In northern parts of scandinavia there are places where the landscape is beatiful, people are happy, towns are small and you can do something else than watch tv.

Its amusing that you bring this up. I live in America, and I know a lot of people that are getting quite sure that we're going down the drain. For example, we know people in Phoenix who are stockpiling large quantities of guns and ammo to fight the police 'when they go and implement martial law'. Also I know people in Colorado who moved up deep into the mountains and have converted mostly self-sufficient living there.

Just interesting to see that a lot of people are thinking the same thing no matter what country they live in.

Also, I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Singapore. Extremely clean and modern, except they don't speak English D:

Come up here! We got the good internets and nordic beauties. Oh and our countries aren't going down the drain either, unless you count Iceland as one of us.

How would you get a residency in Singapore?

Im kinda getting sick of the Swedish lifestyle and I dream of one day moving away.
Good thing my mother is from Singapore so i can easily get a permenant residence over there.
Perhaps after college i will move to Singapore. Last time I was there was 5 years ago, can any Singaporians tell me how life is over there atm?

Come to Canada my friend! The climate won't surprise you, we are a peace loving nation and our economy is on the up and up. Did I mention the abundance of natural resources? Last month 90 k jobs where created in this country of 30 millions inhabitants... We didn't even feel the economic recession here.

Oh yes they do speak english in Singapore and they have been for a very long time.

English is the primary language there. My mother has an excellent understanding of the english language and she has only lived there for about 20 years (born).

There are a lot of Malaysians and Chinese, Indian etc. But everyone can more or less speak english

Singapore PR here! but Singapore here for me its good. If you have a good degree and can speak English, you can get good wages ($US2k/mnth), its pretty safe due to its low crime rate, downside is that cost of living is really high if you aren't a PR, nearly double. And tbh, Singapore's pretty boring, since its such a small country.

South Korea and Japan are other countries you can consider if you got a basic command of Japanese or Korean. The culture there is phenomenal and you won't find yourself without a thing to do, but bad side is that cost of living is high as well, everything there is expensive.

Not the Greece thing, but just the way things are being run in general. Does sound like a load of old man's ramblings, but sometimes it seems it's the last days of Rome in here It's crowded and un-free here, and unless you're rich you can only live in densely populated, polluted stretches of concrete TT

madnessman: Japan seems rather crowded to me, and I hear the language is hard to master. Tell me something about singapore if you please

Scandinavia seems good too, it's only... I'm an absolute nightmare on skis :p But perhaps that can be mended. How tough are you on immigrants these days? ^^ I'll look into it

No English? What? What do they speak there then? :p Guess that goes to show what I know of the world

Concerning the feeling of pessimism, I don't think armageddon is at hand, or clan wars, drug wars or race riots ot whatever, I just don't like the general mean-spiritedness, if that's a word.
