I've been in Japan for about two weeks now.
I've been to most of the popular places near Tokyo like:
Shinjuku, Shibuya, Akihabara, Harajuku, Ikebukuro, Akasaka, Yokohama (Chinatown LOL).

I was going to go to Osaka but realized that costed a fortune.
Anyway, besides shopping and sightseeing, I do not really know what there is to do.
I went to a maid cafe, checked out Shibuya 109, saw the famous dog statue, went to Imperial Palace, karaoke'd twice..
So for most of my free time, I have been going to UFO CATCHERS!

In America, these are called crane games.. and they basically consist of like 3-4 claws that are uber uber weak and really have no strategy to it.

However in Japan, it actually takes skill, patience, and money management.
They mostly consist of two claws, usually weak, with a fairly big body. Sometimes you have to grab the object, push it with the body, or move it a certain way to finally edge it off.

It is SOOOOOOOOO fun. I spent about $200USD on the following items on the left:
The ones on the right, my girlfriend won them.

I'm planning on selling most of them, so I'll make profit.. haha.
Has anyone ever played or is as addicted as I am?!

There are many many prizes, usually anime-related.
The prizes in Japan's UFO Catchers are usually ONLY made to be caught.
That means they are not sold (unless a store buys them from a winner) retail.

The different types include figures, towels, blanket and pillow covers, mugs, plushies, wallets, cards, cosplay costumes, and much more!!

They are usually:

100YEN = 1 Try
500YEN = 6 Try

or..

200YEN = 1 Try
500YEN = 3 Try

The cheaper ones are usually for harder prizes.
The more expensive one is usually for easier prizes.

Seconded, lol.

Congrats on finding a pro strategy to beat that machine. I've personally never had much luck (or skill) with those machines.

I think around 20USD? I'll have to get back to you on that; it's my gf's prize and she is asleep now. :x

Yeah dude, in Korea, they have so many of those. In one summer, when I visited, I got like 5 gun lighters, a wallet and almost a PSP. The great thing about the crane games in Korea is that they don't just have dolls. I found a Nintendo DS, a PSP, and MP3 player, shoes, and a lot of lighters there. They are way better than dolls as they are more useful. In one, there was just money there.

$200 USD really? Um ... okaaay. I'd say that all the stuff in that picture is worth about $5 (probably how much it cost them to make it too), but whatever, I guess it's your money.

This sounds like fun. I'm actually really good at those games, but I never see anything I want. they always put things like stuffed animals in to win, so unless im trying to use my uber perception micro to impress a date theres no point. I'd like it if there were better prizes. Some of those action figures you won are pretty badass but I can't really tell. If the games provided prizes like Squall and Cloud I'd be all over it!
Wishing you well.
