Hi guys,

So every year I attend the WCG Grand final, after the event, a handful of friends and I spend an extra week traveling around the area that WCG has been held in. This year it's in LA, I had planned on visiting Mexico for a week after WCG but a friend who lives there has advised us against it at this current time due to some restlessness (No research, I took his word for it).

Ruling out Vegas, and I don't think everyone will be able to afford to fly across to the east coast or Canada. If you found yourself in LA with a week to do whatever you wanted, what would be the best use of your time? Keeping in mind you would have already spent a week there.

I don't always find myself in LA after a WCG Grand Final with a handful of friends and an extra week traveling around that area without an opportunity to go to Vegas or the east coast or Canada, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.

Go to Mexico anyway. Don't listen to the doubters. I am serious.

Why do you rule out Vegas? Is it because of the distance? Because then you will be locked into a pretty boring area. SD is a nice city but nothing for a week imo.
There is the beautiful nature around the national parks, but you should relocate to Vegas to go there.

You could get a car and take Highway 1 to San Fran and fly back, which it's not too expensive and a classic ride. Actually you will need to get a car in any case as you will be hopelessly stuck without. San Francisco is pretty amazing and I like it much more than LA.

First of all, your friend is very much correct that the Mexican border isn't the place to be with the current cartel conflicts going on there.

If I were you I'd just chill in LA. LA nightlife is pretty nice. LA itself offers little tourist value imo. Sure there's hollywood, but that doesn't offer that much besides the clubs. A worthwhile cultural attraction is the Getty Museum though. I liked it a lot but I don't know if it's your thing.

I guess you could roadtrip to San Francisco though. The coastal road through the bay area is pretty famous and nice.

HB, you don't appreciate my limited selection criteria? Zatic, I'm all up for Vegas, but one of the girls I travel with doesn't like it and we're a fairly accommodating bunch, if one person doesn't want to do something we'll avoid it, at least on a scale of city choices anyway.

I'll do some research on the Mexico thing, but the road trip idea sounds really awesome, I can't believe I hadn't thought of it. We did that during the Seattle WCG, we just got into a car and drove as far south as we could go before we had to head back to Seattle (We hadn't thought about the return flight).

Nice =).

If you like food, I can tell you a bunch of restaurants that are worth hitting up.

What do you like to do? I can't really suggest anything without knowing your interests.

You could hit up Santa Monica. 3rd street promenade and bars/clubs around.

Highway 1 or I-5? Whenever I drive from LA to SF or vice versa I-5 is way faster.

(I grew up in LA)

Places you guys can visit during the day:
Universal City Walk/ Universal Studio, The Grove/Farmer's market, Hollywood(kind of overrated), The Americana, Rodeo Drive, Melrose, Korea Town, and Venice Beach.

Places you guys can visit at night:
I go to college in San Diego, so I haven't had much chance to go out in LA. However, I had a good time bar hopping in universal city walk, and in korea town. Also, I think there are some pretty good clubs around Hollywood.

Food:
One word, KOREATOWN! Go to UNLIMITED korean bbq.

So yea, this is my brief list. If you like one of these places and would like to find out more, just let us know and I and/or other TLers will help you. I am not really sure I would recommend driving up to Northern California though because the drive is pretty damn long (around 7~8 hours?).

Hi! Native So. Californian here and recent taker of a California History class.

LA has really some tourist attractions, but for most of the time, LA is a tourist trap.
Hollywood is really boring, santa monica is really just a pier, only famous because thats where the route 66 ended. the grove/farmers market imo is just a mall. although you are better off trying to find good food, because attractions are little to none in this city. If you do end up going to Korea town I'd be happy to recommend some of my favorite Korean BBQ places.

disneyland was not mentioned and disney california adventure so I would like to address that here, first disneyland has no alcohol, its about 80+ dollars to get in. ITS EXPENSIVE for Disneyland srsly wow.

california adventure has alcohol tho and would be considered the adult version of disneyland.

San Diego:
San Diego is awesome in a way that is kind of relaxing. Lots of historical stuff if you enjoy that kind of stuff, you can go to Old town, visit a Navy Carrier, go to Sea World, enjoy one of United States best beaches.

Drinking is really done in downtown Gas Lamp. Think a small town atmosphere drinking place.

Most recommended: IMO do the highway coast tour from LA to SF. great sight seeing on natural beauty. If you are into camping Yosemite is really a wonder to see. You dont necessarily have to camp either, there are plenty of styles such as going into a hotel camping..hahah

I hope you have fun and srsly everytime I have friends come to LA I never know what to do with them because I know some places aren't interesting at all but they seem interesting based on the media. (Hollywood)

Hi guys, thanks for all the advice. We have decided on the LA to SF HWY-1 Road trip, I did some research and it seems awesome. I'm fairly laid back and so is the rest of the group, we enjoy food and culture but like to feel productive through the day, not so much at night.

As for LA itself, I really enjoy my bars and pubs, we'll probably end up going to maybe 1 night club just to see what US clubs are like, but I much rather enjoy a quiet drink. Does LA have anything resembling beer gardens? I also wouldn't mind drinking with some college students, are there any student or university bars?

I think we'll probably avoid Disneyland due to the cost issue, and as for Hollywood, might do a day trip taking some photos, but it doesn't really interest me.
