Have you looked through your system and application error logs? Sorry I don't have a win7 computer in front of me to detail how you get in event viewer and filter for errors, it is slightly different from xp. I have a lot of errors like The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because the shadow copy storage could not grow due to a user imposed limit. The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period. (This seems to be a problem, so I'm currently applying this solution) The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume Windoze. (Happened once or twice, but this may be because I had to force shut down my computer while it was frozen) Hopefully fixing the issue related to that device timing out will solve it.
