Hey guys , i see posts all the time asking for electronica recommendations. This post is about Acid techno.
I first stumbled upon the sound about 10 years ago when i first got into electronic music , with one of those double cd compilations of electronic stuff (unmixed). These type of things are great because they usually have at least a few great tracks on and you can pick them up at thrift stores for cheap.
Anyway for me there were 2 great tracks on there , one was named Madely - Stress which is sort of a mixture of Acid and Hard trance. It's a tune that still stacks up pretty well today in my opinion.
The other track i enjoyed was named Lochi - London Acid City. It's probably the best known hard acid tune out there , the vinyl can be expensive but it was repressed a few years ago.
Anyway the same year i rented a 'rave' documentary called better living through circuitry (one of the better docos about the 'scene' out there). The tune i'm posting here was not included on the soundtrack for the doco and it took me maybe 6-7 years to get an ID on it.This one came out in 1994 , it's a little slower but it really grows on you.Track is called X-Heart - Analogistic Warrior and comes in around :20 on this clip.
Anyway so i've already posted a hard acid/Hard trance hybrid , this tune is a hardcore/hard acid hybrid.I wish more tunes like this were released (late 90s) and hardcore went down this route instead of becoming a cheesy mess.Another similarity you could give to these 2 genres is most of their tracks were produced by a small handful of guys under aliases , and the BPMs are pretty similar so you could of easily transitioned from hardcore to hard acid in a mix.
Anyway one last thing about this stuff , most of the records seem expensive. The mp3s aren't THAT hard to come across but you are looking at $40-50 US for many of these slabs. Here's one of my favourite tunes , it was only released 5 years back but already commands that sort of price.
I love it! :D I looove music threads Always on the hunt for new music and this genre has always appealed to me. Just wasn't sure of how to pursue finding more of it.
damn, thanks guys this is an amazing thread. i remember listening to a few acid trance songs a while ago but for whatever reason i didn't really dig it.
these posts are awesome, the songs by the OP and space buddha is fukin sick!
can u guys post more of the artists/songs you guys like from this genre?
if you guys know who blutonium boy is, he's actually a hardstyle artist but a lot of his sounds he uses are "acid" electro sounds, and a lot of his songs are titled to reflect it like
I was just googling for 'acid techno blog' to see if anyone else blogs about acid techno (I do) and came upon this thread, and even though this is a bit of an old post, I thought that some of you would enjoy some of my acid mixes, plus the essays that accompany them and tell you more about the scene that spawned the music.
Here are probably the two most interesting mixes, in terms of both the tunes and the essays, which you can download at my blog:
Beyond The Valley of the Acid Vixens - 90's acid stuff, starts off with acid house and then gets much harder as it goes along, plus it's got an article from a friend on the London illegal rave scene back in the 90's which is an excellent read. Squat Rocking 3 - Pure London acid techno mix, all pretty banging stuff, plus some video and articles on the free party scene
Enjoy! Also, if anyone has any questions about acid techno music, I'd be happy to answer them.
