I just got my new computer i ordered a few months ago (see previous blog). It took really long to get since the 2 ati 5850 were almost impossible to get. I've always used windows xp and i wonder is there anything I should know about window 7. Tricks, important settings and such. I already noticed the mouse acceleration and turned it of again.
I'm also using 2 videocards in crosfire are there important settings for that I should change ?
Overall the computer is running great Going to try streaming some sc2 too.
Can't wait to try out SC2 but its still downloading
Also, I like to change the start menu so that it takes three clicks to shut down instead of two. Otherwise I find that I shut down on accident when I try to click somewhere else on my start menu.

Thansk for the UAC tip. hadn't bothered me yet but I'm sure it would have in the future. About your second tip I can't seem to find where to change it. I olooked under the options but i can only change it to other things like change user and such

how do you do that? i also find it annoying that i sometimes accidentally click that button as well.

Turn it off. UAC shouldn't catch anything that you yourself won't already catch... One thing that took me a little while to figure out is that if you are browsing a menu you have to press alt for the menu bar to come up.
- Windows Picture and Fax Viewer doesnt display animated gifs anymore - you cant arrange icons in your folders freely. you have to put up with the "superior" microsoft windows 7 sorting system.
those things drove me crazy the first time i found out about it. i hate windows 7 so much, but still needed it for all my RAM.

I can't help the OP much since i rarely run W7 but does anybody know how to change the forlder icon (not specific 1 folder but on all folders) i never were able to figure that out :/
I really don't think Aero is worth it, it's weird, sometimes likes to act on its own, so go for the classic look.
Another good tip about Windows 7 is the new hotkeys: Win+Up, Win+Down, Win+Left, Win+Right (maximize, minimize/restore, size and move the window to the left half of the screen, ditto for right side of the screen).
The search in Start Menu is horrid, go for Launchy. Oh, don't care for the search in Explorer either but I usually go for the command prompt for that.

Put it on lowest, but not off, UAC only bother you then when you like install or change a system file, which is the settings on XP pretty much minimal annoyance.
Other wise nothing too major you just have to get used to the system, imo why have dx11 cards but not a dx11 os either way you should switch.
I leave UAC on, I like knowing that I'm installing everything and knowing what's changing.
The only additional shortcuts I really use are dragging a window to the top for maximizing windows and alt+up-arrow in explorer to go up a folder, because I have trouble finding that button in 7.

UAC, DEP etc are all designed to keep your computer secure, XP security flaws mostly are caused by how much power the end user had, vista and 7 trys to fix this by making it default to less power, the logic is those who are competent enough to look up fixes and how to unlock etc are competent enough not to let their computer be overran by viruses etc.
