So yesterday I was playing WoW and got disconnected. Now, this wasn't a big deal, since I usually get disconnected once in a while. But this time it was different. I was trying to log back in to no avail. I got hacked. I didn't think too much about that, because I immediately changed my password, ran a computer scan and logged back in to see my friend say that "someone logged onto your alt a few secs ago".
After the raid, I checked my bank and stuff, didn't see anything missing, so I thought it was no big deal and was glad that I managed to stop a hacker in his tracks. I ordered an authenticator immediately after I got hacked and was pretty happy about my new loots. However, my biggest mistake was that I left my account alone after a password change and scan of my computer. With this in mind, I went to bed.
Just a few hours ago, I tried to log onto my WoW account again to find that the password has been changed AGAIN. At this point I'm getting extremely frustrated and changed my password just to log on and see that all of my characters have been stripped of all their items/gold. I have sent a report to Blizzard, but to be honest, I really doubt they will recover my stuff. After that, I really didn't know what to do so I just sat down and started thinking about what I did wrong that caused this chain of events. Keep in mind that I only gave my password to a select few of my closest friends in real life. Perhaps this was poor judgment on my part. Personally, I don't think that my friends would betray me, but you never know, sometimes people DO get greedy and you will hate yourself for trusting the wrong people.
As I patiently wait for Blizzard to contact me, I ask myself these questions:
1. What could I have done to prevent this from happening?
2. Why did I go to bed knowing that someone has hacked my account and won't give up that easily?
3. What could I have done to protect my account from future hackers?
I know my account is my responsibility to protect and I was clever enough to not give my info away to email scams (which I got a lot of btw). But this time, I really am lost on how this happened. Now, I regret ever snickering at people who have got hacked. I now know what it feels like to be hacked, and I tell you, it does not feel good at all.
I really don't know why I'm posting this here, because I am a relatively unknown lurker, but I just wanted to tell someone, anyone about it, and I feel that the TeamLiquid community would be able to give me advice and help me out.

Wow really guys? He posts a serious topic about him getting hacked/asking for advice [with proper grammar, spelling, easy to read formatting] and 7/10 responses are useless posts just burning him because he plays WoW. If he played any other game, I'm certain the replies would be different.
Anyways, yeah as arb said, they most likely will be able to get your stuff back...usually they do. (note: usually) An authenticator is the easily one of the best things you can use to secure your account, makes it more or less impossible for them to hack your account (there is that one single virus made to by pass the authenticator, but that's still no reason NOT to use one). I had this happen to me once only worse. I literary saw my character farm Dire Maul for 2months before blizzard gave my account back. Pretty much stopped playing WoW after this happening.

He posted a serious topic about the game that couldn't be farther from StarCraft in it's essence. I am always the one for solidarity, but there are a plenty more places for WoW related posts on the web. I feel this quality community (as far as English-speakers go) is quite rare and should be kept going about quality competitive games.
As for what you did wrong, probably many things. Both telling ANYONE your password, and other stuff you forgot to mention. Visiting many sites, any downloads while not having proper AntiVirus/Firewall protection, outdated operating system etc could have given you a keylogger. It's not that you can't trust your friends when you give them your password, you cannot trust them they will protect your account and not get keylogged as well, not only sell it.
Use this opportunity to stop playing (altho I know you won't) and move your attention to quality games or -even better- start going back to real life issues that must have arose during all that wow playtime and get a break.

How????? if you have authenticator code on you cellphone which is not part of your cpu and no remote nor physical connection between your phone and your cpu, HoW did the hack get pass your authenticator code? that thing refreshes every minute with a new code.

I meant I went to the blizzard store and bought one, I do not have the authenticator app for my phone.
Also thanks for the few helpful posts in here, I really appreciate people not flaming me. Since I do play StarCraft, I check out these forums, but I think that posting this blog here isn't the best idea, seeing as many others apparently see this as a StarCraft-only forum. I know that the majority of the posts here are StarCraft related, and I realize that there are many other places to post about WoW topics, but I thought that there would be more understanding people here. (Check the official WoW forums, most of the people who post there don't know what they're talking about)

I've played WoW for 3yrs now I'd recommend quitting for SC2. Authenticators are 6.50$ free shipping when you order them from wow.com. Pretty easy to setup and can use them on multiple accounts. I get my competitive fix from arenas and it's such a let down from SC

First of all, its a good time to quit Wow. Most people I know tend to quit Wow once they get Wow out of their systems, and one of the ways this could happen is by getting hacked. Lol. Anyways, I know how you are feeling now because I got hacked before, but this was 3 years ago. That time, gold was actually hard to get.
Also, if you send in the report correctly, chances are, the GM could restore ALL the items you have lost. Even though it might take a while for them to investigate the incident. I don't know about other cases, but in my case, I got back all my items and gold as well.
Normally, you should avoid posting in the official forums and avoid clicking any links there to prevent any such incidents from happening again.
PS. Go out and get some fresh air, it might help.

Not play WoW. 
Just download malewarebytes, update it, and run it.

Actually authenticators cost $10 to ship into Canada, because it cost me 17 bucks. I agree, SC is much more fun, but I like to play WoW because most of my friends are playing and just hanging out with them is really fun.
