Family means to have someone watching over you knowing what is best; a group of people dedicated to your well-being trying to make you happy, even when you do not know how yourself. They know we are degenerate junkies, addicted to ugly obsolete things like hostable replays, chat rooms and command line /f lists. They know that we would, given the chance, let our corrupt nature have the better of us and stick to the unaesthetic derelict functions we were used to as unknowing children, ignorantly believing them good, seeking the future in our past. They know the only way to show us the way ahead is to force us to do the right thing - force from us the jagged chains we deep down inside know are holding us back from stepping under the glorious rays of light.
Under the light consisting of the simple joy of unlocking a new portrait. Experiencing the laughter coming from finally unlocking a new achievement. The merriment of being a part of world-wide community of friends, which, in time, can endow us with the pride of fearlessly displaying and documenting everything we did, when we did it and with whom. We would feel no shame in telling the world the names of the friends who are in the pictures with us, what they do, who they know, where they live, who they used to date, how much they earn and how their daily schedule looks.
From Battle.net 2.0, they want us to learn that we are all part of the world, save us from our self-imposed isolation stemming from our faith in ancient technology and connect us to the global community. What good is playing a game with someone if you do not know his hobbies and what kind of music he listens to? What if you could immediately know your opponent is a girl, simply by looking at her portrait? What if you could just click on it and be transferred to a beloved communal nexus where you could see pictures of her as she sees herself, taken at perfect lighting conditions at the perfect angle and having the genetic inconveniences that do not coincide with her her ideal self-perception and fashion sense removed or altered, so you could behold her inner self without superficial distractions? What if she liked the same things you do, listened to the same music, and was single?
Balefully, we are being obnoxious kids, pestering our benevolent benefactors to make the perfect children's game. With the added experience and expertise of the strategically vastly superior C&C series, it is obvious they could have done this years ago, had they so chosen. Blinded by self-deception, we perceive their path as disgusting catering to all the lowest common denominators of what they think is the typical representative of the widest possible target audience. We fail to see their intentions for what they truly are. They do not want to again create an addictive secluded sanctuary inside which we would seek refuge. We complain because we feel they are making a soulless commercial game for us to play in our prisons, when they are trying to set us free. At the essence of what they want to create lies not a game, but more than a game. What they want to give us is a shining portal to the world.

5 stars, you should post more often

I was convinced I`m about to see ramblings of another angry player sparked by patch 13 but I`m pleasantly surprised.
Where are the people that bitched about MBS and automining now? I feel the same way about Bnet. Let`s give it a go beyond the release date and see how it goes. Of course, there is a lot of things missing but I`m sure they will all be added.

That sentence should have given away the sarcasm of this post to those who didn't catch it.
Anyway, this is such a well written post. It gives all the positives of Blizzard's intentions and vision of the social aspects of bnet 2.0, even casting them in a positive light at some points, but succeeds in conveying that it's all a hopeless impossibility.

Okay, I`m going to hide in a corner with a view differing from everyone else and faulty sarcasm detectors.
