^ fail, as youll shortly know why

The week after i ordered my new gaming gear i basically sat at my window waiting in anticipation for santa to deliver me my presents (as every gamer knows the fedex guy is as close to santa claus as there can be). The first feeling i felt once i saw santa coming out of his truck was that of anxiousness and nervousness. Anxiousness because i couldn't wait to test out my new gear and nervousness because i didn't know what to expect, having to give up my old mouse and keyboard wasnt something i was looking forward to, as im sure most players can relate to.

The transition was hard for the first week but as of right now i couldn't be more pleased with my selection. I have to start my review off with the SS 7G because im loving this keyboard soooooo much. The first thing i came to notice with this keyboard is that the keys seem to be smaller in size than my previous keyboard. I didnt actually take the time to measure the keys and compare it with my old one but i could easily tell that there was a difference. Right now my fingers have access to more hotkeys than they did with my old saitek keyboard, imo the easiness of accessing various keys is one of the most important aspects when considering a good vs. bad gaming keyboard. Also its easy to tell how high the quality of a keyboard is just by the way the keys feel underneath your fingers, and honestly my nerdy fingers have not been as happier in a very long time. Also im liking the slightly elevated backside(its built into the keyboard design), i never used to elevate my keyboard but after i got accustomed to all these different new aspects i could feel an increase in my handspeed. Another plus is that its built like a rock, pretty impossible to make it budge while your gaming.

Next is on the list is the SS Xai and i won't lie.. most of my nervousness was in regards to the mouse change. I have been an avid supporter of the razer diamondback since forever, making this switch was kinda scary for me but like every other gaming gear once you get used to it you wont even be able to tell the difference. As of now the mouse runs perfectly smooth. Im loving the way it fits my hand, the way it clicks and most importantly i finally found my perfect gaming sensitivity. However, i wouldnt recommend this mouse to someone who is used to gaming at high speeds, im pushing 55% for my SC2 in game sensitivity as opposed to the 20% sensitivity i used to have with my diamondback, the speed differential is noticeable but for someone like me who enjoys gaming at low speeds it isnt much of a factor.
EDIT: scratch the last sentence, seems like you can install the SS drivers in order to adjust dpi speeds, it actually has higher dpi than the diamondback

The next piece of equipment doesnt need much of a description, the SS Syberia v2 is known as of one of the best headsets around for its price range, it feels comfortable, isnt heavy, doesnt get too hot after long hours of gaming and the sound is amazing, as an old speaker gamer i have not played a single game without my new headset, i find it actually gets you more involved in the game. For an extra 10$ you could also get the SS 5H but id stick to the Syberia.

And now heres the part that made me sad =/, when i ordered the Fnatic QCK+ mousepad(THE XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL ONE) i didnt pay attention to the size and as i later found out the pad does not fit my desk tray.. lenght-wise and height-wise the thing is basically the same size as my tray (too bad me + thinking = is no compatible T_T), however i proudly have the team mousepad hanging from my wall as a reminder to rape everyone in every league and individual match (plz dont say you wernt warned).

The only minor dislike i had was in regards to the mouse + keyboard wiring. The wires were so big n heavy that they kept hitting my feet which was pretty uncomfortable BUT being the ingenious person that i am i managed to scotch tape the wires to the inside of my desk(lol ghetto style ftw), im happy to report that ive been wire-free for the past week . Another negative is that i keep rolling on top of my headset wire with my chair and im scared that i might gg the whole thing in a short while, i still didnt find a method of fixing this problem because the extent of my intelligence does not go beyond scotch taping something to my desk and if id want to do that i would have to tape it to the side of my desk and that would look too ugly, stay tuned for updates.

but in all seriousness, if your looking to invest in a keyboard and more importantly if its within your budget(the only downside is the price) i would strongly recommend the steelseries 7G, i promise you'll never look back

Prices (USD)
Syberia v2: 89.99$
7G: 139.99$ (yup =/)
Xai: 89.99$
QcK+ limited edition (Fnatic): 19.99$

Nice post man. Appreciating the reviews here. I'm definitely interested in that keyboard and will look into that more as I'm in the market for a new one.

On the subject of cable management, there's definitely a lot of options available to you. You could make use of all the various types of cable ties out there, or different types of tape (which you've explored already ), but there's also this little tip that may or may not be useful to you: http://lifehacker.com/5499838/binder-clips-as-cable-catchers-redux.

I found it very helpful personally. It's a great way to manage cables in a tidy way, that's secure but not permanent.

SteelSeries mechanical keyboard is just a standard mechanical keyboard with added price and a known name on it. If you like the name enough then go for it.

However, i wouldnt recommend this mouse to someone who is used to gaming with a high dpi mouse

? Xai has adjustable dpi from 400 to 5100 and diamondback has 1600..

Isn't your team sponsored by Steel Series by the way?

You only need to liek gently caress the keys on a 7G to activate D: don't have to push all the way down
Big problem for me since the first week I was bashing it hard and my hands would get so tired because it takes a lot of pressure to push it all the way down lol >_>

dunno i paid 80$ for my old saitek keyboard and it isnt even comparable to the 7G, im pretty sure gaming wise i know what im talking about more than you even if you might be more knowledgeable within the field, i can feel the difference beneath my fingers

isnt the mouse speed = dpi? i didnt check the dpi speed on the xai but i have to push it to 55% sensitivity in order to get same performance as my old diamondback which was at 20%

i dont get paid to plug ss shit around and i seriously knew someone would post something like this sooner or later, just had time to kill and wrote a review, it was the least i could do.. relax

Did you install the official steel series drivers? You can adjust the dpi there as it may be locked at a low dpi if you're using some other drivers.

I don't think Saitek makes mechanical keyboards btw. so it must've been a membrane one or something, those are overpriced at their own league.

I have always been a hardcore fan of SteelSeries always used their mouses, pads, keyboards and headsets. Though I bought a SteelSeries Kinzu a month ago and this mouse is the worst piece of SHIT I HAVE EVER FUCKING BOUGHT O MY GOD! It was really bad. I liked the look and the texture, but the optic thing was even worse then I expected (read some complaints about it on forums). It would literary skip 2pixels at the time no matter how low I had my mouse settings sensivity low or high, dpi on max or low it all didn't matter.

Though SteelSeries gear is way more durable compared too Razer mouses and headsets the real stats and whats it about is worse. I have a the same headset as you got but I don't think the quality is all that good. Also SteelSeries drivers are quite bad except for the looks again had lots of trouble with them.

So I hope they improve the quality to what it was but now its just bad.

Expensive, but the gear looks nice. Once I work some over the summer I'm totally buying that keyboard and the headset, and a new mouse, possibly the one you just reviewed, and then I'll stream sc2 and do a review of the gear .

I was definitely thinking of investing in syberia's as soong as my logitech is all done for. As far as the keyboard that's so pricey . I got the Lycosa for half the price and its definitely more my taste .

Sorry about the mousepad, why don't you ask for another one? lol. Sponsors!!!

damn, that keyboard looks awesome.
it's pretty expensive though considering how generic it looks. the generic look is the best though. i'm assuming it feels good too since it's a gaming keyboard. i might buy that

Those types of mousepads are more for FPS and not RTS really. I have the same mousepad except black and it fits perfectly on my desk. It's amazing seeing that i play competetive TF2 and would not get a different mousepad ever. Has nice friction and doesn't get dusty and is the perfect size for my sensitivity. My mouse glides smoothly over every inch of it every time I play. I really recommend it to anyone who plays FPS and doesn't have it already.

I can't believe someone would spend more than $100 on a headset. See what I did there?

Maybe you could just get some heavy duty scissors and cut the mouse pad down to size? Gratz on your new equipment though.

A mechanical keyboard like the steelseries 7g is definitely a must have for an rts player. The DT35 craze is rubbish. Elitekeyboards.com sells more mechanical keyboards. The Filcos are probably the best quality for you rmoney. The Steelseries is from what I have heard also very good though. I would think it would type exactly the same as the filcos with black switches. They just look different.

Thats the reason I got the QCK Mass. It isn't as large as the QCK+ or the BEHEMOTH that is the QCK Heavy. Luckily it has the thickness of the QCK Heavy so it has a very smooth gaming surface and lasts forever. Amazing for first person shooters (if you talked to the fnatic CS team I'm sure they'd agree ;D) But yeah I love steelseries products they do a great job. At the moment I use the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 because they are only like 25 bucks but I have used the Xai before, it is just a fantastic mouse for any serious gamer.
