Hi guys!!
Trying to make two journals that look like they came from the 19th century, as I am trying to create journals that the characters Raskolnikov and Svidrigaylov of the book Crime and Punishment would have written.
Obviously, they will have to look old school. So I looked up on how to make paper old --> paint it with coffee, maybe use tea instead. I'm not completely sure on how to do some other things like making a beat up leather cover for the journals, etc. Anyone that's artistic and experienced in book binding maybe could help me out? Thanks

Try soaking the paper in tea. You can also try steaming it. For the leather, try soaking it in water, then drying it quickly, like with a blow dryer. Or you don't have to dry it, getting it wet will still make it deteriorate. Also try rubbing it with fine grit sandpaper.
Disclaimer: I don't know if these are good ideas--I'm not a bookmaker. I don't even like books.

No idea, but I've painted with coffee, and it's awesome. However, it will probably take you forever to paint thousands of pages...Because in order to create different tones, you have to wait for the first layer of coffee to dry up, then apply the second layer. and so on.... I believe I used about 5 layers for the hair. More layers = darker values

ughhh dang yeah that would take a whole lot of time. probably soaking the paper in tea then
ill try the leather wet and dry thing - i dont expect a whole lot of bookmakers on tl anyway lolol thx for the advice

teasoaking worked for me when I did it once

I also went at the edges with a lighter. Nothing serious...i wasn't going for a burned book look, but just a really old crusty pages look. Go at it lightly.

How should I bind the paper and leather cover/back together?

Try it in tea, it worked for me before on a project from 7th grade :D
Just get a box with tea and drop the paper in, then pull it out and let it dry one by one and put it together :D
