trying to make comparisons like that is dumb... I can get 2000+ on the sc2 ladder no problem and I'm not even close to being A- skilled in bw
also, OP, I don't think you realize what an accomplishment getting to D+ on icucp is. That means you're better than most people who have ever played bw. Also, your elo or w/e it's called isn't even 1300 which is pretty low. In most divisions I don't think that'd even be top 20.

I feel like the most noobie player in the world after reading this thread. I was C- Iccup but i'm 9-9 in silver league right now after about 1 week of play time. I mean I haven't gotten my Bo's down or learned all the unit counters but I mean damn... silver league really.

Anywhere below 1600 plat is iccup D-/D range, I can safely say, as I am 1650 plat and never got out of D on iccup.

I think there's enough players that in gold the skill level is all over the place. I've played people who barely have a clue how to play the game, then I ran into a rough patch of 10 games where pretty much everyone was a lot better than me. Best I ever did was low D+ on iccup. Still going to hit platinum at the rate I'm going...

for sure off, i know c- people that are over 2k elo and d+ players that are pretty close to that

Or even gold. iCCup rank has a terrible correlation with SC2 ELO.

You can go to C- by 4-pooling or 10/15 gating or something like that. On the other hand you can have a solid grasp of the fundamentals at D+, which will translate so much better into SC2.

No it could just mean you played a whole lot more games

I don't think he's trying to say that people who were X rank on ICCup will be X Elo in SC2. I think he's just drawing a parallel between the ranking systems as far as how good you are compared to everyone else - i.e, anything below upper gold is just a bnetter, then that's his idea of the ranking correlation.

The rankings on iccup aren't going to translate well because a huge factor in your iccup ranking was your ability to macro without automine and mbs. Even I can macro on sc2... Now its about gamesense, scouting, timing, and micro (although there isn't enough of the latter if you ask me).
These were factors in sc1, but only once you had excellent mechanics. Now these are the exclusive factors so you are going to see a lot of people who relied on mechanics dropping down, and a lot of people who had excellent gamesense but not good enough mechanics moving up.
It's a good thing if you ask me.

You'd be surprised how much more meaningful platinum is on the asian server

Please name a few of the B players that are at 1500 while not messing around playing random and it's their 2nd day on sc2. Actually, show me those, they should still be above 1500.

I was a High C- low C player in BW currently gold league, still exploring strategies and stuff but I can safely say I've never lost a single game due to mechanics yet.
That and voidrays means that I've almost never lose to Terran/Zergs. LOL
