Hi, My name's João Campos, brazilian, catholic, 20 years old, freshman Computer Science student. I play poker for a living and just got sucked into StarCraft.
I have little to none previous experience with RTS, Seriously, the first time I saturated a base was on a couple of games against cpu last month after learning about TL.net. I never played SC online. I played Age of Empires 2 when was a kid and felt normal placing five peons per resource and found weird the cpu placing like 20 on each, LOL. Also WC3 with a couple cousins, oh we were bad. Recently had to play again at a cybercafe, because of course they didn't offer such an outdated game like BW.
Lately I played Company of Heroes, didn't get far but it's a great game, I think gonna get back to kill time until SC2. If I can find out where to download the damn 5GB off Steam.
Don't have a beta key yet, thought about ordering from the US anyway but Gamestop shipping costs more than the game, Amazon only sends collector edition, with priority shipping and asks a deposit for taxes. Doesn't get worse I guess.
First I was excited about Collector Edition but you know the feeling that you're being ripped off? CEs are a textbook example and even SC2 can't get me over it. I absolutely love the soundtrack, have all terran bookmarked on Youtube and have one song from BW on my iPod, but I'll try to get from iTunes ([off topic rant] seriously, it sucks so much when you want to pay a buck for good music with good quality and because of the majority of pirate douches your country get ignored and you're doomed to buy drm-to-the-teeth wma stuff on local online stores or dodge through viruses for some 128kbps mp3 [/rant]).The pendrive with SC+BW is interesting but doubt I'm gonna play it also because I enjoy the advantage of being not biased by BW play. Couldn't care less about the art book, and the Thor pet pretty much slaps "rip off" on the box.
So all I have been doing is watching SC2 vods and some BW, have already made myself Jaedong fan, Z my favourite race and ZvZ my favourite matchup. LOL
About SC2 is hard to say and I will start playing as random to get a feel, but I'll talk about what I think of each race soon.
Thanks for reading, feedback is welcome.

Maybe you played aoe2 when you were little? A common consensus is that most people below the age of 14 simply do not think far and broad enough when playing RTS games (no offense).

I could probably have beaten you at broodwar when I was 13 (14 now)
I have teenage friends who are above average rts gamers. Your question doesn't even make sense but that pissed me off.

That's what he said (he played when he was a kid). I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.
Could you please try to clarify?

as to how this relates to the OP, don't really know.

That probably has more to do with the amount of actual experience playing the game, rather than your direct age. I mean, you are saying your skill now can beat your skill from long ago...well DUH...if you couldnt, it would probably be in your best interest to quit.
The amount of experience you have with something determines your ability, not the age at which you do it. There are millions of example to back that up.

Age is a factor like many others.
In my case I sucked because I won anyway, so wasn't driven to seek better ways to play. Which is why playing against AI < playing online.

I have access to a few internet connections: 200kbps at the hotel where I live, up to 1.5mbps at my sisters' home but would piss off everyone as Steam eats all the bandwidth. Also a nice 1gbps at college but it is firewalled. If the connection stalls the download restart, so it really has been difficult.

Frey's steam filter.
Ah does bigpond love me for downloading 30gbs of games unmetered.
