By chance I happened upon TL while trying to find the definition of micro and macro (thanks TL wiki!). I couldn't believe the community here, it was amazing to me that so many active people were still discussing a 12 year old game so passionately. I'm not the hardcore gamer I used to be when I was younger, but this made my inner nerd smile.
Shortly after this I found Day[9]'s stream. I didn't think I could be amazed any more than I was but the strategy involved in what I saw brought SC to an entirely different level for me. All this time I knew there were hardcore SC players and that in SK it ruled as a sport, but I never had anyone spell it out for me the way Day[9] did. I was an instant fan.
Shortly thereafter I quickly decided I wanted, no, needed to be a part of this. I'm much too old at this point to compete at anything resembling a high level, my better gaming days are behind me, but I still love community, I love strategy, I love the idea of people coming up with ideas around a game that were never originally thought of by their creators. Simply put, the metagame fascinates me to no end.
And so I figured I'd start this blog on TL to write about my time with SC and SC2 right from the bottom on up. From being the lowly noob with zero skill to...well, probably being the slightly less lowly noob with +1 skill. While I'm not certain I'll be able to offer as much insight as many of the veteran players here, the idea of communities built around games has intrigued me so much for so long, it's time I was really a part of one, instead of writing about them (I used to be a game journalist in the 90's and video game culture has always interested me).
So I'm not going to miss out this time. SC2 is my game from the beginning, sink or swim. Thankfully I got into beta (which I'm used to, I've done lots of beta's because of my game journo connections), so I can play right along at home through all the twists and turns this game takes.
Thanks to the mods for keeping up a great site and a great community. I look forward to the experience for many years to come.
