And no, I wasnt aiming for platinum. I just got beta earlier this week and was a terrible sc:bw player (low D on ICCup). Before the reset on SC2, I was comfortably down in the bronze league, winning just over half my games.
But I just did the placement matches and somehow managed to go 4-0 to start. At this point I seriously considered throwing the last game because I know I can't handle platinum at all. I ended up deciding against it and played normally (came within seconds of winning too) but ultimately lost. Still, 4-1 and now in the gold league.
I estimate I only had like a 60% winrate in bronze so I guess I'm absolutely screwed in gold. Anyways, I guess I gotta go get owned now.
I've heard a couple of times about people who feel they placed lower than they should, anyone else think they placed too high?

lol after playing the first five games of sc2 ever, i went 5-0 and got placed into platinum. lost pretty bad there but eventually started figuring things out a little bit. its just that placement matches are so ridiculously easy that my solid scbw skills (B/B+) were enough to get me through

Im in gold as well Hope to get more games going.They keep resetting stuff so Ive played my placement matches 4 times now.Silver, gold,silver then gold again.
Currently in Gold division 3 ranked like 73rd or 78th with a 3-2 record.I need more time to play heheh.

True. But I was disgustingly bad at BW and I'm not much better at sc2. But I talked to the guy I lost my fifth match to and he said he was a platinum before reset and think that I can handle gold. So we'll see how that goes.

well it's sc2, not bw. bw requires skills.

D+ in BW that got placed into Plat... I should be Gold so it's not THAT high I guess, but I'll get bludgeoned down in no time, I'm sure.

They just need more players to really place well. With less players there is less accuracy.

Alright, so I've played a few games in gold and and I'm getting the same feeling I did in bronze. I guess the placement matches are smarter than I am.

heh, it's weird... I played on a friend's gold account and went 1-1 in my first two games ever. The first game I didn't know what the hell was happening, so I played a practice game vs the computer to figure out the tech tree in between... then I somehow won the 2nd game by outmacroing/outexpanding in a TvT.
except I am low D/high D- at sc...

I'm a D- in platinum right now, I went 4-1 in my first two placement match sets and then 5-0. I haven't played too much but I don't feel like I'm way over my head. I haven't played anyone yet that I feel is actually good and knows what they're doing so hopefully that will change. I'd rather start getting destroyed and realize what kinds of stuff I can and can't get away with then keep walking over people.

Different game, doesn't really matter.
I was D on Iccup but easily placed in platinum the first three resets I did and won quite a good few games, then I just started being unable to play TvZ, so now I'm in bronze. I seem to be winning most games though so I'll get promoted back up eventually.
The ranks on this really don't matter all that much at this stage, you could be in copper and still be good at the game, just because you don't think you're good enough for platinum, you probably are, just believe in yourself and play your best.

So basically, once the full game comes out I'm gonna finally get my hands on it and get clobbered in the 1st 10 games I play?lol.
