So i was getting a bunch of phony security messages and the program wasn't letting me open up any antivirus programs so i booted up in safemode, ran malware bytes, deleted ~20 trojans and went to restart. Now as soon as i make it past the opening screen instead of loading windows it just stays black. I can no longer press f8 to bring up the option to boot up in safemode, i can only open up the setup and what device to boot from. Halp?

if you cant boot up in safe mode you should try to reformat.

Boot into a linux live cd and transfer essential documents and music and shit, then reformat. Easiest way to fix this.

One thing you can try is to boot up your computer with a Windows installation CD and try to repair the system files.

It will most likely fail. In which case it's time to ask your techie friend to backup your files and upgrade to Windows 7.

aww depressing. guess i'll try to salvage my shit by booting with linux live and hopefully be able to back up my music n shit

Yeah thats unfortunate... even if it is possible to save your computer and revert it to the original state I've found that most of the time it's just not worth it. It takes way longer to figure everything out than it does to just start over.

Which version of windows are you using?

If Windows XP: Use recovery console to try and write a new boot record (Recovery Console and type "fixboot c:" )

If Windows Vista and Windows 7: Just use the Startup Repair option in "Fix My Computer".

If those don't work, then yeah you're going to have to do a reformat.

How do i use the recovery console if i cant get even get into windows?

Use the Windows XP CD and boot into Windows Setup. There will be an option that says "Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console". It is a command line interface so best of luck to you if those intimidate you.
