I have a beta key. I had one before I won the scavenger hunt. I want to know whether it would be against the spirit of the competition to give the key to an IRL friend who really wants one and will use it a great deal. People in IRC have argued that it would be best to keep the key within the community.
I want to keep the key and give it to my deserving friend. However, I will let TL decide.

Probably wasted sentiment since I won't vote, but I don't see a wrong choice here. Seems like both people are deserving and you should probably just make a gut decision and stick with it.
Can't you give a key to someone once you are in beta yourself? I don't mean the same key you have... I'm not sure if this still works but once you enable something about mails with offers from blizzard in your battle.net account options you can be invited by someone right? If your friend invites Kinky they will both get a key...?
it's your key, you won it and you can do what ever you want with it but to be honest, i think i'd favor the option to keep it in the community. if you wouldn't have participated in the hunt because you already have a key, it would be in hands of a fellow tl member. but if you entered the hunt with the intention to win the key for your friend it's fine
Haha, tbh motbob, I was going to do the same exact thing you were doing by giving it to a deserving friend. I'd understand if you'd keep it for yourself, it's fine.

The whole point of these contests is to let the less fortunate have a shot at a beta key...Not the people with beta keys get more beta keys.
I guess there is no rules saying that people who already have beta keys can't participate though. I suppose you aren't obligated to give the key to kinky, but it seems like the "right thing to do".

OK the poll is currently at 39-38. I can't give the key to Kinky because he already has one. Giving the key to Jadefist in third place is pushing it. So I'm gonna give the key to someone I know deserves it and will use it.
You won the key, do with it exactly as you please. Nobody will be mad if you give it to your friend. (and if they do they were probably an asshat anyways so who cares.)

Hey, motbob, congrats on your scavenger hunt win! Kinky was gonna give the key to me but you won so you deserve it. Kinky was gonna do the same thing for me but take a look, you're first place. You put in more effort so you deserve it. I can wait :D.

Just give it to your friend. You took the time to participate in the hunt so it's your choice. IMO giving it to your personal friend and giving it to 2nd place is the same thing.
You shouldnt even have participated in the hunt if you already had a key. The right thing to do would be to give it to the person who would of won it if you hadn't participated. Having said that, if I was you I would give it to a real life friend.

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but considering it was an open contest, I don't think there's anything wrong with entering the contest for a prize that you already had. After all, he still had to put forth the time and effort to find and posts the answers, doing so faster/better than others. While it sounds like it makes sense, handing it down to third place isn't entirely right either, considering that other people would have been posting the answers in motbob's/Kinky's stead. You won the key, you do what you want with it.
That said, maybe the next contest could be limited to those without keys, though it'd be a pain to check to see who has a key and who doesn't throughout the remainder of the challenges. :/
Oh, is this another nominate thread? I nominate myself because apparently I was the only one competing who didn't already have a key. P.S. I was 20 minutes late for my final because of the scavenger hunt. AND the public computer was slow as hell so Jadefist stole ten of my points. gg
Edit: In case people didn't get my sarcasm, this was a joke (besides the exam part). Definitely give it to your friend. You won a contest. :S
