My monitor only has dvi ports and my speaker uses the standard cable with the green end (don't know what it's called). So from my (limited) knowledge, I assume that if I just buy these things, everything should work okay. RCA to DVI converter cable. (Maybe RCA to VGA and then another VGA to DVI because I think the RCA to VGA will be handy for other things.) a Y cable for my speakers (following this guide) Correct? Is there a more efficient way? But since I got a better monitor I'm actually able to just plug my HDMI strait into the monitor and both video and sound will go through that (much like a HD TV, at a fraction of the cost). EDIT: Yeah its basically what the guide says. Though unless your monitor is 16:9 I don't think you'll be able to do anything higher than 480 on it. | ||

As for audio, also had to use a Y-Adapter so I could plug the PS3's red/white into my speaker system. That's basically all I had to do for mine. | ||

I was in almost the exact same situation myself. Also you can get cables to do this stuff on amazon.com or monoprice.com for like 5-8 USD. | ||

Also wide screen monitors come in 16:10 and 16:9. 1680x1050 or 1440x900 are 16:10 1920x1080 or 1280x720 are 16:9 (there are more sizes but those are common ones) Dunno know what 2nd piece is called, but its a female/female connector for just regular auxiliary input. | ||
