last year I had a roomate who I despised. He was a complete fucking asshole. I would fall asleep at like 1 or 2 in the morning for my 8am the next day, and around 3-4 in the morning EVERY FUCKINGDAY he would call his friend (in the room, while i'm sleeping) and say "hey let's go smoke" so he and his buddy would go smoke some weed, come back to the room high, TURN ON THE FUCKING LIGHTS WHILE IM SLEEPING, and turn on the FUCKING TV for some shitty comedy movie, or comedy central and have the volume really loud (It's 4-5 in the morning by now, and i got class in 3 hours. I got no sleep whatsoever last year.
If that wasn't bad enough, he walked in on me and a girl after I texted him saying "hey man give me a little bit of time with this chick" and said some shit about how I had to leave the room. Like seriously? It made it completely awkward and me and her couldn't finish while we were in the middle of the nasty. Then he would expect me to give him some alone time when he would cheat on his girlfriend with some fat ass bitch down the hall.
Last semester me and my roommate got along great, we dropped acid a few times, did some shrooms, DMT, had a blast. We became really good friends, until he dropped out. Now I'm stuck with an anti-social know-it-all who tries to make me feel like shit constantly (while he expects me to coach him in poker). Of course I don't give a fuck about him, but he has only showered twice this semester (it's been 2 fucking months) 1 shower a month isn't exactly hygenic, so he smells like a combination of shit, sweat, dirt, and everything else. I tried to get a room change, but the RA is a bitch and wants to keep it a 'community' and I should just talk to him. I've contemplated locking him in the bathroom until he showers. I just found out he has been using my tooth brush (GROSS) so I really can't stand this kid.
I did however jip him off for $80 though, as he bought my old ass $50 guitar with a broken peg for $65.

OP then, instead of trying to "help" or encourage more social behavior, tries to convince roommate to live next year in some sequestered part of campus where there would be the least amount of social activity. When roommate expresses that he doesn't want to live there, OP calls roommate a delusional idiot.

Man all these stories of bad roommates scare me.
To op for snoring its something you cant do anything about so i would just buy ear plugs. The other problems are things that can bother you but in no way is something your roommate is doing wrong.

I'm gonna jump in on the hate on roommate bandwagon.
I got stuck in a triple at NYU freshman housing - for those of you who know, or can probably guess, housing at NYU isn't exactly the most spacious. Especially not for freshmen. Especially not for a triple. It's basically three guys crammed into a tiny room. No kitchen no common room no nothing, just barely enough room for three beds and three desks.
Now, it's like, okay, it's a bit cramped, but I guess I can deal with it. Now one of my roommates was cool I guess. I mean, we don't really talk or hang out since we have different interests/group of friends, but at least he's "normal." The other one was just totally inconsiderate.
Every other night, regardless of weekday or weekend, he'd basically go out clubbing. That's fine, do your own thing, except then he walks in drunk at 3-4 in the morning with a girl, and basically starts doing it when his two roommates are sleeping in the room. He's not very discrete nor quiet about it either, and sometimes he'd flip the lights on. It's like, what the fuck?
Now both me and my other roommate are pretty deep sleepers, so I'm sure thsi happened many times when we just slept through it. Sometimes, however, one or the other, or maybe both of us, would be up - either doing homework/last minute studying/or just staying up for kicks, and he'd do the same thing, and basically gives not a fuck that we were awake. It's like, wow dude, really?
I guess this is an issue of him not caring that much, which is like, OK. It's not -that- awkward for me, especially if I'm asleep. But he also buys all this random shit in this already cramped triple and leaves it everywhere. His stuff alone took up about 2/3 of the room. He once bought some shitty humidifier and placed it on my desk next to my bed, except he was retarded or something and put in the water tank wrong and it flooded my bed. The rage I felt T____T
And considering how he's half drunk most of the time (he also talks with his friends about doing a variety of drugs, ranging from the mild marijuana to crack cocaine), he's like half conscious most of the time and leaves everything in a state of general disarray that sometimes borders the obscene.
Nor does he believe in earphones or headphones of any kind, and enjoys watching movies or blasting terrible rap loudly at any time of the day, including from 2 am to 8 am.
Fortunately, about 3 weeks ago, he moved to another dorm and for now, me and my roommate has a double that hopefully won't be occupied by anyone else.
But yeah, god that roommate T___T
PS OP you sound like a dick that roommate doesn't sound that bad lol. Snoring is annoying I guess but everything else you bagged on him for seems like you just being a douche.

First year of uni, I shared an apartment with my cousin and two other guys.
One guy was cool but the other one was a real piece of work. He moved his bed into living room with out asking anyone because he wanted more space.
My cousin was home sick and talking to his mum on the webcam in the living room and the dude just walks past and remarked what an ugly bitch. My cousin just flipped and smashed him right then and there.
The crazy thing is he stayed till his lease was up while not talking to anyone in the apartment after that.

Never had a bad roommate experience and I've had three. First was random and the kid was incredibly laid back and we smoked a lot together. He dropped out and I lived with my best friend for three years - could not have been a better situation. He got an apartment so for my last semester I moved in with my friend and it's been awesome.

my roommate is a fucking weirdass chinese kid (who is the most socially awkward kid i have met, can't speak proper English, has many habits, never showers, never lets friends in my room etc). thing is we both respect each other as roommates. i am not gonna hang out with him or grab lunch with him but i don't invite friends over and pre-game in our room or something. yea, i wish i had a cool roommate who i can actually befriend but what can you do. once i move in next year with 9 of my friends and some frat brothers it will be SICK.
overall, i don't like him but pretty close to neutral.

I'm baffled by how many people chose to move into an old small apartment god knows where, with shared amenities and have to share it with god knows how many roommates, some of those can be total dicks and slobs.
I would never trade the comfort of my home for that.
Seriously if someone came into the room where I was sleeping at 3-4AM and turned on the lights and music, i would have fucking murder one on my hands.

my roommate is also awkward almost like the OP but not in the 'saying weird shit/long winded stupid convos' shit sense. more like in the sense of being socially awkward, but not a wow-addict/nerd; being VERY selfish in terms of asking people for big favors all the time that i see others awkwardly and reluctantly accept to be nice. its hilarious.

The only thing that bugs me about my roommate is that he never turns off the lights unless he's going to sleep. Sometimes he forgets to turn it off before he goes to work and leaves it on even during the day until I get home to turn it off. He thinks that turning it off and on wastes more electricity than just keeping it on and turning it off once you go to sleep which i think is a load of crap. It bugs me because I'm paying for half of the electric bill and I'm probabaly paying more than I should becuz of him. Maybe becuz I come from a poor family that likes to conserve everything but still you should turn off the lights in the kitchen when ur not using it....
