I just read the amazing article by Waxangel and Liquid`Drone (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=114301) and was at once reminded of my very first SC1 moments.
I remember arriving at my friends place and he introduced me to this new game. I think it was back in '98 or '99. He had a classic Pentium System with the 33Mhz processor you were able to boost to 66Mhz by pressing a button. I recall he ran Win95 at that time and had 32MB Ram (or was it 64MB? ).
What did we do? We played the Protoss campaign. Well, Internet at that time was scarce in our neighborhood!
And what an event it was, guiding Fenix through the first mission while the slowass PC kept lagging as SC1 was too damn high end for it. Oh, it was so much fun! :D At that time I loved Protoss. The affirmative calls just rockt, Zealots going "Für Aiur" (Ger.: For Aiur). Really, so much fun.
What about you guys? What where your first SC1 experiences back in the days?
one of my first games was on blue night in seoul 1999 and there was this guy who produced marines out of 6 barracks and i was like "oh damn this guy is sooooo fucking good" and my team got raped
For my first time, I jumped into an online game, like a 2v2 or a 3v3, and I had no idea how to play the game (didn't even play the single player first IIRC). And thus I didn't know how to ally. So my team was all like "hurry up and ally, you noob!!!" and I couldn't do it. So then they killed me off.

My first time playing was about 2 years ago with some friends in a 3v3. I had never played before but my friend just told me to make siege tanks (he had to tell me how to make them).
My first time playing was because my brother worked at blockbuster video and they gave us the N64 version for free. I remember playing as terran and didn't know that mineral patches eventually mine out and my brother made hydras and i thought their acid shots (along with killing my scvs) was melting my minerals. Played that game for like 2 years before i realized there was a far superior version on the PC.
I got the demo before I played the real game, had SO much fucking fun with that that (I almost jumped out of my chair when I fist met a sunken colony, never occurred to me it would attack). I probably played the demo 50 times or something. I HAD to go out and get the full version.
Watching the intro video for the first time in a darkened room with the dudes getting raped by the mysterious capitol ship and then the big STARCRAFT appearing with the electricity has gotta be one of most fucking badass moments of my childhood. Jesus, I get shivers just thinking about it.
