Hey all,

So I finally decided to blog something. First time doing this but I think this is such a powerful lecture, I can't not share it.

I saw it for the first time today. This is the last lecture of a computer science professor named Randy Pausch. He was dying of a pancreas cancer and only had a couple of months to live. Taken from the website (http://www.thelastlecture.com/):

On September 18, 2007, computer science professor Randy Pausch stepped in front of an audience of 400 people at Carnegie Mellon University to deliver a last lecture called “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.” With slides of his CT scans beaming out to the audience, Randy told his audience about the cancer that is devouring his pancreas and that will claim his life in a matter of months. On the stage that day, Randy was youthful, energetic, handsome, often cheerfully, darkly funny. He seemed invincible. But this was a brief moment, as he himself acknowledged.

The whole lecture is available online here:
http://www.cmu.edu/uls/journeys/randy-pausch/index.html

I highly recommend watching the entire thing. It's a bit long (around 1h30) but you really won't regret it.

I saw this about a year ago when one of my exes sent it to me - she does CS and has worked with a couple of Randy's former students. It's a good lecture, and I'm still absorbing lessons from it whenever I manage to stumble across it again.
once, not long ago, there was a moon here

I have a question about that

Is the book the same thing as the lecture? I'm seriously considering buying it

Excellent, a truly amazing and inspiring man. Here is another one of his really great and practical speeches. Really helped out a lazy disorganized bum like me :p

Thanks for the OP, it had been a while since I first saw it and had forgotten the lessons. Just rewatched it again, it was great and I hope I can remind myself to watch it again every so often.

I'm a CS sophomore at CMU, and I just missed him by a few months. He's pretty awesome, and I really wish I got a chance to meet him...
