It all started last week when I cruised my way into the radio station to find any sorts of opportunities to be involved and know how radio works. I have NEVER ever done any sort of radio in my life, never knew about the equipments nor how the hell these people edit sounds and all. But it all changed my life when I visited them, took the initiative to just talk to them saying I'm interested. I wanted to learn the works, I want to have my very own show, and gave them a few ideas that I can work with if I have my own show. My biggest supported idea was to have a video game talk show mixing along with video game music/soundtracks (like Final Fantasy, Zelda, etc, the good ones) and simply have a show about previews and reviews of games, upcoming events/releases, Q&A via phone calls, twitters or something, and have music here and there in between. The program director and the staff really liked my idea and since our college radio is filled with mainly random DJ shows, sports or politics talk shows, and maybe one spanish show, I will simply do something completely new and revolutionized our college station. Thus I was assigned to come in for training today!
So what happened? Basically first off, I went into the rooms where our college radio station has 3 control rooms (master control, room A and room B) where the shows are done in any one of them, mostly at the main master control room. I was able to learn many new things and the tricks and tips of how to make this and that working, changing songs without having that delay, the mics, one of those controls where you can make it higher lower, etc. It was just purely amazing. Now, apparently I was suppose to get training for only 30 min or so and then this "sex" show would come on by this host that happen to not come in today... =( BUT, because that 2 hour block was completely empty and it was unexpected, my trainer just decided to shove me into the radio room and told me to start doing the show whatever I want and just do it. I was like "WTF? you serious? I just came in, I don't know how this works and all" but in the end, I was literally taken hostage and ended up going ON AIR in front of the entire school and start making up random stuff, playing music in between, and went along with the flow. I winged the show with my trainer, talking about superbowl and I actually ended up talking about that "world rankings of 7 deadly sins" I have posted a thread the other day in TL. (LOL)
I was definitely nervous, I wasn't able to talk into the mic straight, and it ended up a disaster but I now knew how and what this worked. Of course I'm still inexperienced and I am there to get experience to prepare for my future opportunities that may lead to radio field but I was pretty shock how fast I was moving in this radio station. I was told that I was simply lucky and normally I wouldn't get training this fast nor this much in one day, especially since I even got to be "on air" for about 30-45 minutes. Truly remarkable experience I had in 2 hours...
But from today, I learned something, that I am definite to create my very own TALK SHOW when the time comes! (but I gotta do thru this intern process with a show for a bit until I have my own show...) That I am CONFIDENT of wanting to create something new and something big where I want to gain an audience large enough that I feel I am really doing something that can somewhat change someone's life. So in my last statement, I ask my fellow TLers, when my radio show is finally on debut, will you be able to support and listen to my very first radio show?? What do you think I should title my show to be called as?? (as all shows have their own name??)
Thank you and I hope I didn't really overdid with my blogging and typing this time!!
