Some of you who play on the 2v2 ladder on iccup may have noticed this crusade the admins now have against accounts who have the wrong flag. My own account, along with several others, was reset and banned. Im looking for some different perspectives on the issue (halphalp).
Short version is I transfered stats from a d+ account with an American flag to an account with a correct flag two months ago. I had simply just forgotten all about transfering from it. Now it strikes me as rather unfair that I could get so severely punished, just for making up for my earlier mistake in using a fake flagged account.
Anywho i've been told that mai-k's word is law at the website by different admins, and it seems my forumban is imminent because i remade the thread when they closed it before I could reply.
On February 07 2010 12:30 GreEny K wrote: damn yo, i have like... 5 accounts with different flags... One of the admins even changed it for me lol
It's OK when you request the flag change from HasuW when it's incorrect or if you maybe want the flag of your heritage or w/e instread of country of residency. The problem for the 2v2 accounts specifically is because there was so much of it happening at the high levels of 2v2 and it was really a purge and also to get the message across. The rule has been out there but no one ignored it and repeat offenders have ruined it for everyone.
I think the stance with smurfing on an account with a different flag is that it is tolerated, even though technically it's not really allowed. The problem is when people abuse the toleration to get unfair advantages such as the cases where they transferred to a friend's account to let them play at higher ranks.
The funny thing is I'm pretty sure ICCup.Lov3 isn't from japan. I may be wrong but I'm 80% sure he is Romanian. However, he is using a japanese flag on iccup.
There are a ton of inconsistencies with admin decisions and ICCup rules. I really want to explain it away with the fact that admins come from many different countries. They may not understand the server rules very well due to somewhat unfortunate language barriers. That just seems unlikely though.
Anyway, yeah: If a Head Admin makes a decision there isn't really anything you can do to undo it unless you are very lucky.
hahahahahah this is so stupid, I gave Frode that account like a year ago when I made it, and it changed to a norwegian flag by itself...like 6 months and 2 seasons ago. How stupid is that?
There's no repeat offense or any abusing or smurfing WHATSOEVER. Do you Iccup people not even have IP histories or even LOOK at what you're doing before you ban people? This is honestly ridiculous, lol.
Sasuke is being very generous saying we "share" the account. We don't share anything at all. I gave it to him a year ago and I haven't touched it a single time, EVER.
Probably the reason is that I made the acc with a USA IP and you log on with a Norwegian IP. I guess they better start crackin the fuck down on Yan/Tazarro/etc, because they sure as hell share accounts and give stats away and shit.

IMO I have seen mai-k ban alot of people over very small things. I swear, when it comes to a point where mai-k has a chance to ban someone, he will do it 100% rather than look at the situation and work out a solution. Mai-k's only solution ever has been to ban anyone that annoys, or angers him, without actually looking at the problem at hand.
Thats why soo many people complain about iccup. That sort of attitude trickles down to alot of lower admins, and you end up with a negative experience overall. Personally I rarely ever post on the site for that reason.
yeah there are some problems with ICCUP but instead of complaining fruitlessly about it and making a whine blog, if there's a problem that doesn't make sense, why don't you just PM (politely) one of the admins that frequent teamliquid?
haha, you gotta love this one, the opening line is: "After a long time, we finally got rid of Mai-K"
Simply epic work by cheloman <3
Furthermore, how would it help PMing some iCCup Admins who're visiting TL.net? All that's possible to do is ask for some Admin to go corrupt and make an exception of the rules, so to speak. Unless you're talking about changing the rules themselves, though, but as iCCup.DeL implies; a situation has forced them to take such drastic means.
Hence, there's not that much to do except play on accounts with one's own flag on it. Not that hard to stay away from trouble
Why though.. They force you to use the flag of the country you're currently in, result is I have accounts with norwegian, swedish, US and japanese flag...

Ok, I have a german flag on a lot of my accounts because i lived there for so long. Quick question, why are 2v2 players not allowed to have a different flag?
Iccup admins are terrible. Most of them are from countries where ethics are lowly developed. So they have little to no moral compass. Lust laugh at it and try to outsmart them. Not too hard. Unless they IP ban your entire city. Why not?

a lot of the higher up iccup admins are tools with minimal intelligence and a healthy dose of I dont give a fuck. Other admins however, are really really cool (for example del, couple of others whose names I dont remember). In fact a majority of the admins are intelligent and mannered Iccup tries so hard and got so far into the foreign sc scene, and they provide a free service though so in the end it doesn't even matter. They can do w/e they want and its justified

Yea that was a quality post bro. Like if the behaviour of an admin has something to do with his country.
I once got banned on iCCup totally randomly. I played a few games, went AFK, came back and couldn't login anymore.
I checked iCCup for any complaints against me, and when I found none, I started asking around for the reason of my ban. I contaced like 3 iCCup admins, 2 of them were total douchebags who wouldn't listen to me, and just assumed I had done something wrong and thus ignored me. Third one I contacted was nicer though, he checked the adminboards or w/e and came back to me saying: ''You are indeed banned, but I have no idea why. o_O'' And then he removed my ban.
It was a scary day. Anyways, iCCup often screams fail when they issue bans it seem.

I've been seeing a couple of terrible posts this evening and I'm trying to keep myself from getting worked over it. But this just takes the biscuit. What in the fudge is wrong with you? First generalizing and insulting a complete culture, then spouting dirt when someone calls you on it. "Insulting iccup admins is not trolling btw." No. NO. Of course it is trolling, isn't that bloody obvious? Insulting anyone is per definition trolling. You know that.

Hmmm..I would like to say that not all of us are terrible . Try to give some of us a break please. By the way, the only admin I have ever heard of banning a city is Unk.

Tools eh? Wow...wonderful thing to say there. I may not be on the Starcraft side as an admin anymore..but I can give you a list of Super Admins & Head Admins that are NOT tools, in my personal opinion. I do agree that Del and a few of them are really cool. ^_^

Who are they? What does it matter? They are not the ones in charge. As for insulting admins, it is a form of trolling. I really don't feel like arguing with you to explain this though. ^^

All I can say is lol. You all have made some funny posts and responses here. ^^
iCCup Admins may be tools, but 99.9% of the ppl who complain about admins r tools themself and/or somekinda cheaters. I have played WGT, nG-i, PGT, gg.nets Carrier and Stargate ladders before iCCup with thousands of games and never have had any problems with admins. So I wonder how is it possible that same faces always have problems with admins, someone care to explain ?

No hard feelings here, I kinda understand why they would automatically assume I did something wrong and tried to get out of it somehow, I mean most cheaters do always try to deny everything, but still, just a check up resolved the whole issue. ;o

There's just no need for people who don't have problems with admins to speak up about it, they're just the silent majority. I've never had problems with iccup admins either, although I do remember trying to troll one :D.
Also, really sucks for you frode, definitely over-enforcing a rule there.

yup. if you ban someone for no reason other then that they disagree with you (read: unk, mai-k, dont remember the other ones name) and have no legitimate reason for doing so other then that you CAN, it makes you a tool, and those mods have done so. EDIT: I've never been banned by iccup admins, however I have tried posting a thread or two, and do watch the forums from time to time, and i see this stuff happening not to mention the hundreds of threads that come up on tl about mods just closing threads with no response and banning people even if they werent that bm
I don't play on ICCup, and I don't know how many topics you made (from the topic you posted, and this thread, I'm guessing two), but that banning is complete bullshit. I'd hardly call two topics flooding, and you actually had a well written post from what I could see, and you were just trying to get an issue resolved. To lock the thread would have been one thing, if it wasn't the right avenue to go about thing (though, who knows if PMing the admin that banned you would have resulted in a ban itself?), but to ban you on top of that is definitely overzealous/power-abusing.
What are you guys talking about? He clearly broke the rules, got caught and the punishment which follows. He made two topics - one where he was explained why it was banned, a second where he was told again why he was banned as well as warned that he should stop posting and then the third post where he was banned, as warned.
You people make it look way worse than it really is. I honestly don't have any sympathy for the cause, rather the contrary.

Insulting matches trolling because they have the same result but the intentions are different. In fact, you could say that telling your honest opinion is trolling because it can cause people to react the same way that trolling causes people to.

This attitude is pretty... eh....
Isn't that the same attitude of TL? This is quoted form the ten commandments: "You are our guests. We will make all attempts to treat everyone with due respect and to accommodate everyone's wishes as far as reasonably possible. But, this is a private site. We are not a "for profit" enterprise. We are not funded by any governments. This means we run the site the way we see fit. We are not obligated to observe anyone's notions of "free speech" or even "fairness."
And damn there is a lot of admin bashing here. I am a forum admin so I can only comment on that, but I know everyone we have banned since I started REALLY deserved it. Which has been like 4 people in the couple months i've been an admin. don't judge us all based one one or two people...
Cant this topic just be done? I'm sorry but no one is perfect. Sure, we all mess up...I am not saying an admin is perfect...If you got banned and it was unjustified in your opinion, then please try to talk to ICCup.Mai-k for Sc side. He is a very reasonable guy. If you got banned on our DotA server then come talk to me as I am the Head Admin for DotA...But regardless....we really all do alot and try to simply give back...so please give us a break.
haha. well while its bumped I've had like 3 different issues with iccup stuff, and every time the admins have been prompt and courteous. never had a problem
Best reason to bump a thread ever. Too bad the admins are nice, otherwise this would stay open for eternity (Sorry, I'm not a mean guy, it's just too good!).
As I understand it, iccup is run by people who volunteer their time to run a antihack/lan latency/ranked server. These guys have to deal with jerks every day on their forums and in replays. If it wasn't for iccup, I probably wouldn't be playing any starcraft.
Iccup is an incredibly amazing thing, and I just don't understand it when a thread pops up hating on it.
Thank you Iccup.Tesla, and all the others at iccup.
