Yeah I just found out, parents paid 500 CAD to have it so when I go to Korea I don't get pulled in to military duty. Reason was because we went to Korea to visit family and I was just turning of age and I was still in school over here in Canada.

I guess it depends on what you mean by cheesy, but i guess Shine could be up there too, along with kwanro. Shine is not so cheesy, They only said that cuz he pwnd the shit out of everybody when they all thought he was a noob. He cheese sometimes, but he aint a mass cheeaser.

He looked at me as if I let out a nasty fart right in front of him. Then and there I knew that he didn't know what I was talking about. So I explained to him what SC was, and how it was his birthright to know about it and that he at the very least should be playing 3v3 on BGH sometimes. He was clearly insulted and said, "What the fuck is your problem? You can't go on stereotyping like that, it's insulting. Not all black people can jump high." I felt a little stupid. Then he said, "lol. Just kidding. Kwanro." True story. Thats so awesome =)

I kinda decided to go on my own, but even if I don't want to go I probably would have went anyway as my entire family lives in Korea and me avoiding the military would be a political liability for my father. Giving up a small chunk of your life is worth it just to avoid "political liability" for your father? Not that I should or am entitled to judge, but I'm curious, what does this liability entail?

Two years is really nothing compared to the 10 years of complete freedom I have had in Canada away from my parents. They've been paying for everything as well until 2009 when I was finally able to get a limited work visa so I can work part-time during school. I think the mandatory military service is absolutely unnecessary and accomplishes very little, but I don't want to run away from it when my childhood friends have to go through it as well (I believe one of them joined this year, with the other two planning on joining next year). When I met my childhood friends last summer they told me just not to go to the military if I can, but I dunno. I'm hoping I can get into KATUSA. edit: rofl from like 2 minutes of googling it seems like American troops are moving out of South Korea by 2020 or something and the KATUSA is going to disappear with it. Ugh I'm going to ask my dad about it tomorrow. edit2: I also realized that I never really explained anything about what potential political liability that may occur. Well, lets say that in some bizarre occasion my father actually steps into politics full blow. If it shows that his eldest son (me) dodged the military service (even if legal), it doesn't really look good. South Korea isn't some kind of super militaristic country but they kinda take the mandatory military service seriously. In a more realistic case it would be more to do with my father going further up in his university as the position of dean or something, where the same issue will apply. It's a little ridiculous, yeah, but things are kinda like that.

I actually had him in mind, and considered rectifying that, but as he's SO MECHANICAL i felt that if someone mentioned him they were joking/an idiot.
