Hey guys,

I'm part of the UWGamers club at the University, and we're going to hold another online SC tournament just like we did last term. We had pretty good turnout last year, and we've changed a few rules based upon feedback and lessons from the last tournament.

We'll be holding two brackets, a beginner bracket for D level players and below, and an advanced bracket for D+ players and above. In addition, there's also going to be a small (2 or 4 dollar) entrance fee to help boost up the prize pool for the winners.

I should mention that by campus regulations, this is only open to UW students.

Hope to see you sign up, and good luck!

The Signup page is here:
http://uwgamers.org/starcraft/
and the full rules is here:
http://uwgamers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1372

Seems pretty inefficient to ask people to paypal you $2.37 when paypal charges 37 cents for commission.
Oracle comes in, Scvs go down, never a miscommunication.

Our understanding was that paypal would take 37 cents, and we would keep the 2 dollars, rather than getting people to paypal us 2 dollars and us only keeping 1.63. That way each person contributes the same amount to the prize pool.

I think having a fee is a pretty bad idea.. i'd play for fun but I'm not gonna pay $4 to get beat by B rank players lol

Not without paypal taking a cut, unfortunately.

Well most people liked the idea of having a fee to increase the prize money. Bear in mind a few things

- $4 is a fairly small amount
- All of the fees will go into the prize pool, we won't be taking a cut.
- Depending on the numbers we'll be able to award second and third place prizes as opposed to one single first place prize

That's weird about paypal. In the past I've made transactions and it didn't charge me anything.

If you send money as a gift directly from your Paypal Balance to another Paypal, as long as the senders account has been verified neither party will be charged anything.

Were "most people" aware that we have a number of blue rank players on the Waterloo csl team?

Yes $4 is a fairly small amount but if the point of the tourney was for everyone to have fun and participate, you gotta question if the extra fun coming from the $4 is worth the number of people that won't play because they know they can't win. And the division between beginners and advanced divisions is a pretty gray area. I can sign up in beginners and probably destroy everyone and make money but if I sign up for advanced, I have almost no chance of making money.

Also, I never accused you guys of taking a cut lol
That being said, gl with the tourney. We don't have much sc activity in Waterloo so anything is welcome
