OTC herbs/supplements/medicine for helping focus

DeathSpank United States1029 Posts January 28 2010 09:33 GMT #1 So for the longest time I've had trouble focusing on things that I need to do. No matter what it is I have trouble focusing on one thing and my mind seems to instantaneously wander off into a daydream or some obscure tangent. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with any otc drugs/supplements that help with focus. I don't believe that my problem is so severe that I would be classified as ad/hd or anything like that though I wouldn't know myself.

You should visit a doctor regardless to make sure it isn't add/adhd, and even if it isn't severe enough they should be able to help with advice on how to handle those kinds of symptoms. From what i can understand add/adhd is always on a scale, it's not that you either have it or you don't, it's just that when the problems are severe enough it gets diagnosed as that.

ghermination United States2851 Posts January 28 2010 15:46 GMT #10 I would recommend 5-htp as well as more sleep, it's one of yhe few types of synthetic tryptamines around that isn't psychadelic, rather it's just a nootropic, proven to improve focus and mood, and it's in every pharmacy you will ever go to (probably...) Adderall and other stimulants can help in the short term, but obviously it's not a long term solution. Take up drinking a cup of coffee in the morning.

Empyrean 17055 Posts January 28 2010 17:22 GMT #11 Honestly, the only pharmaceutical solution you're going to find is some kind of amphetamine (adderall, ritalin), and those can only be prescribed by a doctor (...or you can get them through illegal means). Any sort of "herbal" or "all-natural" fix you're going to find isn't going to do much more than the placebo effect. And even if it had a significant impact on focus, the amphetamines do much better.
