The final grades of my first college semester is just available on my school information system. I got an A- in Art Appreciation, a B in Science of Life, a B in General Chemistry and an A in Applied Calculus. My GPA for the whole semester is 3.40. The timing is so cruel ( right at New Year Eve. I guess I could have decided not to look at the grades though. This semester has caught me by surprise. I did not expect the General Chemistry course to be this hard. There is a ten minutes quiz every single lecture on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I did not do very well on the 4 exams of the courses and the quizzes. The final exam, which was written by the ACS, was the only thing that raised my grade for that course to a B. I will have to do it better next semester if I am still hoping to apply for Pharmacy school.
Anyways, Happy New Year TL!

For a biochem major and pre-pharmacy, chemistry grade is pretty crucial though

where do you go?
EDIT: nevermind it was on your previous blog lol
well im sure you'll adapt better as the year goes on, especially as an international student~
|
yeah I think so too.
It's mostly my fault for underestimating the course though.
|
Ouch. Better luck on your grades next year!
|
I can totally feel you man, I'm in a similar situation. First year isn't supposed to be about studying damn it.

That was definitely not sarcasm.

Getting a B in chemistry man? Common you can do better, you are Vietnamese!

I have done quite a lot this semester :p. Got into the International Student Association as an executive officer, I was able to organize many events for both international and American students. It was fun.

Yes I know that I can do it better lol

Chemistry is easy once you understand what the hell is going on. Rape that shit!
|
you're not alone
i'd also be terribly disappointed if i got lower than 3.5 =/

The final exam was easy but it was not written by my chemistry professor. His tests are long and the time always from 5:10pm - 6:55pm. I am usually low on energy at those time
He is a good professor though but the amount of work is overwhelming. If anyone is curious lol, he is here: http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=690514

yeah it was always over 3.5 in high school
|
3.4 for most pharmacy programs = retaking a lot of courses and reapplying
Gen chem 2 is hard though. I though it was a lot harder then O chem. Biochem was fucking rough though.
|
That's why I will have to do much better next semester and next year
|
I feel your pain, man. I thought for sure I was only to get a B in MultiCalc2, and I was really bummed out.
If I get anything lower than a 3.5, I consider it a shortcoming. If went to high school with me, you'd understand how insane that is.
|
I will strive for straight A next semester even though it would be hard with general chem 2 in the picture
|
PM me if you have any questions, and keep your head up! One B in GChem isn't going to kill you, but as you know pharm is very competitive (and next one is harder) so keep your priorities straight. Every teacher has a system.
Is science of life some kind of pre general-biology class?
|
yeah it is a basic biology class. I took it because most of the biology I had learnt wasn't in English. I am taking a introductory course to biochemistry next semester too. That course is supposed to be a preparation course for biochemistry.
I will pm you if I have any questions
|
3.4 isn't the end of the world, especially since it's your first semester. You have plenty of time to get it up. I got like a 3.1 my first semester but this semester, I got over a 3.9. Also, you should brush up on your chemistry; if you're transferring to a pharmacy program, you have to take the PCAT. It has biology, chemistry and organic chemistry along with verbal (reading comprehension and analogies and stuff), math and essay writing. I didn't think it was that hard though, I got 99th percentile with about 3 weeks of studying.
|
wow, that's really high score.
People who have taken it told me it isn't that hard too so I guess I have to re-examine how I learn this course.
This summer or next year I will have to find something to fulfill the 60 hours experience requirement too. Look like there is a lot ahead.
|
If I got an A in applied Calculus I would kill myself because i know i would have to do some terrible, dirty things to get that grade.
|
Applied Calculus is much easier than Calculus
