Pretty weird/annoying thing that's been happening for a while now. What would happen is that after some period of internet usage, I would be unable to establish new connections. As in, I can't load any more pages or anything. However, my existing connections (IMs, torrents, downloads) would still work fine, meaning I still have internet. I just can't start any new connections. I have no idea why this happens, and nothing in my network properties seems out of the ordinary. Resetting my adapters didn't do anything, and I have the latest drivers.

Restarting my computer fixes this issue, but obviously, that's annoying. Anyone know why this happens?

Also, this happened with the internet in my college dorm, as well as the internet at my house. So it's not a ISP problem, something on my end :\

Try setting a max upload speed on your torrent program instead of letting it max out.

I don't think I've changed anything, it's been happening since ~Thanksgiving (a month?).

As of right now, I have found no pattern/trigger for the internet going down. It seems completely arbitrary.

Does it say connection timed out? (in firefox)

That happens to me whenever my torrents hog too much bandwidth. Windows isn't very good at distributing bandwidth across applications.

It's not a time-out issue, it's just no connection.

Probably a router or firewall issue, gets overloaded by torrent connections.

I torrented stuff for a few years, with no real change in how much I torrent (it's just a couple at a time), this never happened before :S

edit: In fact, this would happen when I'm not torrenting/dling anything too :\

this has happened to me in the past, web pages would not load at all but my torrents would continue dling. i think it has to do with the number of half-open tcp/ip connections windows allows. i run vista ultimate and after reading about the fix i just gave up, it said you need to change some file every time u boot or something... worth looking into tho.

It is probably your router, I had the same problem with mine. Apparently they have a list of ips that you have connected to, and if you load too many before it clears the list it won't connect to any more.
Just get a new router.

Just to clear up, obvious question, but you had different routers/methods of connecting to the internet in both of these, correct? If so, its probably not your router (or, maybe a port issue...Opening ports? Less likely though)

Being the barer of obvious (easily googleable) news, apparently you aren't the only one having this type of problem http://superuser.com/questions/25000/vista-internet-connection-stops-working-until-reboot
It could be something very very obscure (driver conflicts, for example [i've had a problem with using a ps3 controller drivers + using my zune on my computer before, though I deem this unlikely), or router related (possible, but my intuition says otherwise). I'll look into it more when I find the time :/.
