Hey, dunno if anyone here use solidworks for CADs. My dad is trying to get it on his vista which won't work. I have never used solidworks and don't really know what might or might not work.
So here's a question:
Can this computer run solidworks?
"Dell Latitude D820 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 15" WXGA+ Win XP Laptop - $350 (novato)"

I think both my parents are abit out dated as they refuse to buy graphics card -_____- but dad is trying to settle for the crappiest computer than can run it for cheap. So of course I'm worried if the basic buildin graphic card would work at all...

another question:
I'm pretty sure you CAN run solidworks on vista as well, can anyone confirm?

I have classmates who run solidworks on vista.

You can run solidowrks on an intel core 2 duo. But not with 50 parts in an assembly. But even then, you can suppress subassemblies, so it will still be ok.

There has been a thread about this, like a year ago. Lemme search.

Maybe you do not have the correct version? Do you know if it is 32-bit or 64?
Why would you ever choose failure, when success is an option.

I wouldn't buy a computer off craigslist.

I thought solidworks has pretty low system requirements, if I recall.

I've got an older laptop with XP, a 1.6 GHz Core Duo, and a shitty integrated graphics card, and solidworks runs alright. It's a bit choppy, but totally usable.

Also it does work on vista, i've installed it myself. Remember if you have a 32 or 64 bit machine.

Why people refuse to use google and common sense reasoning is beyond me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SolidWorks#System_Requirements

+ 20-50% of those minimum requirements if you want to run it smoothly.

Seriously, it's not that hard.

we ended up picking another HP computer of the same price but with a better graphics card. It'll be alrite now.
And we found out that the 2007 version dad's got won't work with vista

thank you mr detective
it's pretty legit, it's basically a 2nd hand computer dealer, not some random person.

because system requirements released can be far from accurate and it's much more useful to have actual first-hand accounts?
