I have a laptop that came with Vista. The problem with Vista is that sounds can't be played from multiple applications. For example if Firefox is playing a youtube video, Windows Media Player or anything else that plays sound will have no sounds. In fact Windows Media Player reports an error that it can't play the video/audio file, presumably because the sound decoder(?) is being used by FF.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is where a way around it? Does Windows 7 have this problem???

I had this problem with Vista. I never actually solved it, so I switched to Windows 7 and things work fine

If getting rid of Vista is an option at all, do it. I also bought a laptop when packaged with vista and it's really annoying - sometimes my computer will just randomly make the 'ding' sound every 4 minutes. No idea what it is.

I had a problem with Vista where it just stopped playing sounds period, one application at a time over a span of a few hours. In the end, I had to reinstall.

But I'd just get Windows7.

Are you sure? Have you tried opening a youtube video in a browser and at the same time open a video file with windows media player?
