Earliest mention of it. also Horror gate is just a badass name. 'In base proxy' is when it isnt in plain sight, depends on surprise. Horror gate is like ROFL SUP CANT TOUCH THIS where the users intent is to horrify the victim with a show of superior micro

Horror gates are much harder to defend. There are a few threads on how to counter the manner pylon into proxy gates (yes, bisu vs pokju was the most famous game involving them).
If you're defending it, the problem is that not only do you have decreased mining rate, making it so that your economies are just about even (or maybe yours is even worse), but the opponent will usually proxy 9/9 behind your minerals, making his 2 gate pretty much as fast as possible. If you attempt to build more probes to catch up, then you get the problem that pokju had - bisu had more zeals inside his base.
Still not sure what the counter is. iirc, chill was defending going forge first at one point, but I'm not sure if he still holds the same position today.

i just pull two probes and micro. i don't think there's a perfect counter. just gotta micro better than him.

Wat. I'm pretty it's been called a horror gate for a relatively long time. I don't remember the first VOD i watched where it was called that, but this was like 4-5 months ago.

Definitely the Bisu Pokju was the classic use of this strategy. I used it to get to D+ in PvP... because d players don't defend it right.

i played in an iccup tournament for fun and did this in a pvp.
he went forge and defended it. i may have done it poorly but that did seem like an ok response.

forge first seems like an awesome counter haha, I never even thought of that, I'm going to try it:-P

I also remember louder countering with a forge somewhere in there (though it wasn't first). He got one cannon in his mineral line to prevent zeals dancing around his and then went 3 gate all in zeal and owned the poor toss =O.
