350 bucks for what, I can't adjust the volume anymore for some fucking reason I cant get into Mcafee which is also my firewall the computer actually says it is gone for fucks sake! My comp is at the same snail's pace if not slower, Web Root is still going all over the place taking around 47% of the CPU totally at random! I tried launching Champions Online and there is a 217mb patch the dl is horrible I should dl that in no time, I left it to dl and after 30 minutes it hasn't even reached 5%!
Worst of all I am now getting pop ups on firefox, for fuck sake. Have no idea what I am right now pissed, confused, or just stunned. I am glad they got rid of SOME virus but apparently they missed something. They seem to have done more damage than an actual virus.

Time to cut your losses and just reformat or get a new harddrive T_T
|
u can try downloading avast, it worked for me
|
350 couldve bought you a netbook u_u;;
|
I don't understand the usage of an anti-virus. Not to resurrect Zatic's argument but I use a HOSTS file and I don't have to deal with shit at all, ever. Then again, I don't visit risky sites or download questionable files( not that you do either) . And yeah, sounds like a reformat is in order.
|
first off, windows key and r, type msconfig, then go the startup tab and disable everything and restart. well work on getting rid of any viruses first then going back to fix the audio
i recommend running "hijackthis" http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
then posting the log it generates to this http://hjt.networktechs.com/
afterwards, uninstall all other anti/spyware/malware/virus
then install nod32 http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download.php
just go for a free trial. if you like it you can buy it,
after all that jazz, spybot search and destroy. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html
now after everthing get combofix http://www.combofix.org/
run that in safe mode,
if you don't understand anything post back, once we get rid of all that shit, we can work to fix your audio and internet
oh yea, if you don't want to deal with it, and save time, do a format
|
I never trust those people, to be honest. Those so-called geeks are only there to do that kind of jobs because they failed to get their computer science degrees and cannot find any other job to do - so I'd rather kill myself than paying those retards to work for me. If I need something fixed, I just learn to do it myself.
|
I think you now know to do a bit of research before you blow 350 dollars on something.
|
hopefully you have partitions set up or another hard drive installed -_-
|
Forget paying for tech support, TeamLiquid > Geek Squad.
|
You visit TL yet still thought it a good idea to blow 350 to get a couple of newbs to rid your computer of a virus?
a) a ton of ppl here can help you do that for FREE
b) you need to reformat
c) you could have bought a new computer for that price.

Lol Geeksquad....yeah no. You have the internet, compendium of the entirety of human knowledge at your finger tips, not to mention TL which can guide you along, and you chose to drop 350 bucks for nothing :<

Why the FUCK would you call geeksquad up??? Are you kidding me?? T___________T
I know a few guys who work there... most of the people have no clue what they're doing, they just come equipped with a CD with some general programs and that's about it. The ones that do know what they're doing, or even have their certs, don't even do residential calls. You're 10x better off hitting up a local computer repair shop or something, or yeah, just posting here for software issues. My god... $350?
|
Oh yeah btw, next time you have $350 to throw away, host a tournament or something ^_^ Then bring your PC there and people would fix it for free
|
I worked at Best Buy for awhile... Geek Squad's majority are lazy nerds who consider all of their customers "inferior" (after hearing a customer ask "Can you install myspace on my computer?" I don't blame them).
Best to seek computer advice from a reliable source: Friends, forums, or relatives (at your own discretion).
|
when i read your other thread. I knew this was coming.
|
Considering the amount of money you spent, it may be worthwhile pursuing the possibility of a refund. After all, you paid them to fix your PC and they didn't. As to solving your problems, iceburn's advice looks sound.

that is a very sage advice.

A while back I got Geek Squad to install a video card on a computer because my dad gave me money (about $50 iirc) and insisted on it "just to be safe," even though I knew how to install one. I said "why not" because I was lazy and gave them my computer and the video card.
When I got it back, I opened up Team Fortress 2 to test it out. My screen went completely apeshit and wouldn't go back to normal.
I rebooted it and it fixed it, and after messing around a bit I found out they didn't uninstall the old drivers and just installed the new ones right on top of them. Fixed it by installing the new drivers properly.
Thanks Geek Squad, for taking my $50 and making me wait 2 days when I could have done it myself. I feel dumb looking back on this. T_T
Google pretty much solves all problems now And Geek Squad is terrible (but maybe it depends on which Best Buy you go to)

Well ComboFix deleted some stuff less lag or so when I launch firefox, CO patching is still shit.

How much did you buy your computer for?
I'm surprised people even think about using geeksquad. Helping you 'setup' for your ps3 for only $129.99? Hell of a deal there.

This computer cost me around 4.5 - 5k when I bought in sometime in 05-06 can't really remember, it is paid off now.

I would have fixed your computer for 200.

So since you brought it up, I am having a very similar problem set with my computer. Any luck getting it fixed yet, and if so how?

Geek Squad pays their employees $10 dollars a hour, what kind of talent can they get for $10 dollars a hour?
|
How the fuck do you spend 350 dollars on a computer repair. rofl
|
yeah google and all those tech help forums can practically solve anything now. if you don't want to reformat i recommend posting your problems on one of those forums.
geeks to go has saved my life a couple of times already.

and its probably sad that there are people who actually use the PS3 service...
|
Using geeksquad or any ot her service is a retarded thing to do. 1. Install Malwarebytes 2. Run 3. If that doesn't work, go the Hijackthis rout 4. If that still doesn't work, just reformat. The best part is, all of that is entirely free.

Other than CO patching, is your computer still having some problems?
Also, I HIGHLY recommend asking for a refund from Geek Squad. They did a terrible job there.

And now he spent more than it is worth now, to basically NOT fix it. Depreciation is a bitch

Good lord. Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but as here first and proceed from there... never use geeksquad.
|
am i the only one who is disappointed that the OP with 4k+ post went to geeksquad for help rather than TL?
