there is a certain line between appearing sexually interesting and just being "her best friend whom she can pour her heart out". if you want the first - which is kind of the prerequisite for a potential relationship - you have to give her the right signals. be flirty at times in a jokingly kind of way, talk about dirty stuff but still maintain that easygoing, joking attitude - and see how she reacts. it's not impossible to slowly seduce a girl who may not even know as yet that she could get interested in you. and you even got a very good start by hanging out with her relatively often (do you chat with her? that could also intensify your relationship if she likes chatting).
so this would be the most secure way in my eyes... being open to a relationship and signaling that you're not only her best friend but also a potential mate and at the same time not rushing it. if you manage to bring that across confidently it's the best way to tease out her true / possible feelings for you without risking anything. and from my experience, things will happen more or less automatically when the time is ripe and you sent the right signals.

if you knew for sure how she feels about you i'd agree "yeah, just be yourself and right out tell her, man up, and if you were wrong: there are millions of other girls" - but in that case you would not have to look for help on an internet forum and you'd already be a couple, so...

oh oh oh try this.. see if she starts moving backwards as you get physically closer to her. i think that should be a huge hint without having to say anything. unless she is drunk then i dont think that works as much.
