I dont post much on teamliquid, but decided to make a blog just to say that I am very happy to be alive right now. In the past, I took alot of things for granted, and because of that, viewed the world a certain way. This has all changed.
On sunday, I awoke with a stabbing pain in my lower abdomen. Being the stubborn guy I am, I decided to ignore the pain, and continue on with my day. Little did I know that was a big mistake. A few hours later, I was on my living room floor, screaming in agony, as my lower abdoman continually stabbed me with some of the most unbearable pain i've experienced. Within a few hours, I went from agitated and in moderate pain, to full fledged screaming and rolling around. My appendix burst.
Being the stubborn guy I am, I refused to goto the hospital, and instead thought I was just ill. As my insides filled with toxins, my girlfriend was finally able to convince me to get up and goto the hospital. We walked. It was 10blocks total, with all kinds of puss/feces/toxins swirling inside me. As I got to the front door I collapsed, and was rushed to the ER.
After 30minutes of screaming, and 3 morphine shots, I was told my appendix burst open, and I had about 8hours to get into surgury and remove it, along with all of the toxins before gangreen set in, and ended my life. Never facing such news before, I became distraught with emotion. I felt horrible for ignoring my girlfriends pleas , and my families concerns. After 4 hours and 2 surguries, I was able to pull out with my life. It has been 3 days now, and even though I am in excruciating pain (<3 morphine) I just wanted to say, it feels great to be alive, and still a part of this amazing community.

yes it is! I had my wallet stolen 2 weeks ago, and couldnt even provide a healthcare card, and still was able to be admitted and operated on within a few hours.

does the appendix even have any use functions? or is it basically a bomb sinside your body and if it goes off hurts like hell?
get better man... your description gives me the chills

the purpose of the appendix is still unknown to doctors, so yeah I guess it's like a bomb waiting to go off lol.

Glad you're ok now bro, yay for universal healthcare! I'm haven't been super-ill yet (thankfully) so I haven't had the opportunity to appreciate the healthcare first-hand, but these kind of stories remind me it's good to have healthcare than not.

Get better soon man, and thank God for Canada.

From what I remember from Biology it was speculated to be a "hiding" place for the various bacteria and stuff that inhabits your intestines. So if you ever have a system cleaning condition- bad diarrhea or whatever- the bacteria can re-inhabit your system. This is just what my teacher said so I could be totally out to lunch, also that was 2.5 yrs ago.

It has been a while, but I felt really happy about life about half a year ago, and have felt it several times before, like a feeling of euphoria that just washes over you.
It's really amazing.

This is a good life lesson to anyone who finds themselves in the same position. I am a stubborn asshole myself but man, I'm going to have to pay attention if something like this happens.
