Today I am very happy to say that (Z)EffOrt is the newest member of the 2300 ELO club!

How? Well in GOM Classic Season 2 the information for the Round of 64 Part 1 was incomplete, with only the information of the broadcasted matches being available at the time. I just found the results for the unbroadcasted matches, and upon adding them to TLPD, the trickle-down effect was enough to push EffOrt to the 2300 mark on the dot. You'll notice that current ELOs have jumped by a bit, and some ELO peaks are a bit higher now (I believe Jaedong and Bisu's have both been boosted a couple points). So congratulations to Kim Jung Woo!

Also I want to note that (T)fantasy is sitting at 2299 and (P)JangBi is at 2297. Both might make the jump soon if I find more missing GOM games to add.

edit: added another 70-80 games that were missing from GOM season 2 and it has bumped both fantasy and JangBi to above 2300.

Nice. I'm not too surprised since Effort has a pretty sick win-rate too.

Fun fact: (Z)EffOrt went 53-12 (81.5%) in the 115 or so days leading up to his ELO peak.

Cool news! Seems appropriate given that monster run EffOrt had last season.

Effort is such a beast. He almost unseated Jaedong as the king of zerg.
It's a shame that he didn't =/

The 2300 club is still prestigious but as more players enter it, the new age of SC seems to be diluting the value of such benchmarks ):

I somehow knew fanatacist would post immediately after. And congrats to EffOrt. I guess it could be a MJY reincarnation?

ELO Movement of late
- Three new members of the 2300 club; (P)JangBi, (T)fantasy, (Z)EffOrt.

- (T)Flash is at his ELO peak (2340) and has just past Boxer in vZ peak (2256), earning him the fourth highest vZ of all time.

- (P)Bisu has just passed Flash for the second highest vP rating (2262) of all time. Only sAviOr remains.

Not sure what I think about this. I can't argue with the numbers, and nobody else is going to get close to 2300 for some time, but it's always cool when a player get's to 2300 and you see it happen, not months after the fact.

I think it's JangBi that bothers me most about the list, simply because he's slumping so hard right now, and because EffOrt and fantasy have both proved their metal in decisive PL encounters against some of the best in the game en route to their ELO peaks, whereas JangBi has never really won a high stakes game, and got his ELO peak right before losing to fake yellow and letting Khan lose in winners league.

Looking at the list, it looks fine to me.

He's only 8 points higher than Kong though with far less league silvers and special match accomplishmenets. Considering that most of JangBi's games were in proleague though compared to mostly tournaments and special matches back then it seems OK.

We gotta remember that ELO is slowly inflating a bit over time anyway. It's already up about ~27 points from when the first TLPD data entries were put in around '00/'01 I believe from when I did an analysis in April. If you take this into account we end up with something like:

Modern:

(P)Bisu 2360 pts
(Z)Jaedong 2358 pts
(T)iloveoov 2344 pts
(T)Flash 2340 pts
(T)NaDa 2319 pts
(Z)sAviOr 2309 pts
(T)BoxeR 2303 pts
(P)JangBi 2302 pts
(T)fantasy 2302 pts
(Z)EffOrt 2301 pts

(Z)YellOw 2294 pts
(P)Stork 2286 pts
(Z)GoRush 2285 pts
(Z)Calm 2283 pts

-----------------------------

Adjusted (-27 for modern players -- '08/'09 peaks -- because of ELO inflation)

(T)iloveoov 2344 pts
(P)Bisu 2333 pts
(Z)Jaedong 2331 pts
(T)NaDa 2319 pts
(T)Flash 2313 pts
(Z)sAviOr 2309 pts
(T)BoxeR 2303 pts

(Z)YellOw 2294 pts
(Z)GoRush 2285 pts
(P)JangBi 2275 pts
(T)fantasy 2275 pts
(Z)EffOrt 2374 pts
(Z)ChoJJa 2271 pts
(T)XellOs 2270 pts
(T)Midas 2268 pts
(T)Hwasin 2266 pts
(Z)July 2266 pts
(P)Stork 2259 pts
(Z)Calm 2256 pts
(Z)MuMyung 2253 pts
BeSt 2250 pts

The result is that there's only the 4 bonjwa's + JD, Bisu, Flash over 2300, and no real other modern player even sniffing close (2275 with fantasy, jangbi, and 2274 with effort close by). Kong and Gorush would even be stronger than these 3 modern players were as well.

So basically, if you adjust for inflation the "2300" club makes sense still.
