At the age of 19, I rarely think of death. I am living as what my mother says is the best part of my life. It really is. I am young and have nothing to worry about. We all feel like youth will last forever, but really, we have to face the truth: as the time goes on, we will age and eventually die. It's just that we don't think about it, and since most of us are still very young, we do not worry about it.

This got me thinking, what happens to us when we die? Of course the answer is uncertain, but I keep thinking about it. What will happen of me? Despite my mind no longer being apart of my body, will I still be able to feel, smell, see? It really scares me. The moment I die, will there be a heaven waiting for me? Does God really exist? What if he doesn't? Will I still be my own self, meaning will I still be able to think and retain my senses? Fuck, there is no definite answer but I can't help but keep thinking about it.

Just felt like sharing my thoughts. =X

Oh on an unrelated note...

When you die, your consciousness ends. That's it.

Indefinite, open ended questions such as these are good real life debate starters, and exceptional internet flamewar and shitstorm launchers! So expect some massive posting.

I choose to believe I will meet God in heaven once I die and live eternally. But that's just me.

Also, that chick is flaming hot, brb.

Neither can I know what will happen before I die, nor can I change or escape it. No point thinking about it.

Since that's probably not what you wanted to hear, here's what I believe happens: Consciousness ends, like in a dreamless sleep, and you don't notice whatever may happen to your soul (if you even believe you have one) or body.

Personally i dont like thinking about this question cause it makes me feel kinda sick when i think about what might actually happen and what will happen.

If you're asking for a logical answer you're not going to get one .

Your senses as you know them will probably dissapear though. I mean with no body you're not going to have them .

On the God front no one can really answer that but yourself. You either have faith that there is a higher being or you don't. Whether there will be something waiting for us no one knows. I can see why you are worried though, thinking that life will end and you will just cease to exist (cognitively) - it's a scary thought.

You should redirect yourself to this though: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=102795 . Might cheer you up.

My friend died twice after a brain haemorrhage, he said he saw nothing XD. It's really just open-ended on that kinda front. You could say Mediums are proof that there is an after-life as they talk to the dead; would you truely believe that arguement though? I dunno it's a tricky one

Mine told us alot of stories abot how you could still do whatever but it was kinda different idk. though while watching a tv show , i think what happens after you die is if yo buy into that energy cant be created or destroyed thing, then you have to wonder where it goes.

What would determine if you actually became a ghost and were able to talk to people. Alot of people have died over the years wouldnt the earth be full by now?

Regarding those near death situations: your brain is capable of some wacky thoughts.

It's quite normal to go through these thoughts especially at your age. Growing up involves facing these issues and, hopefully, coming to terms with them. I find it really sad that we, as a society, tend to ignore death until the very end when it comes striking at your door. Death is a HUGE part of life, why can't we give the attention it deserves?

The most logical and scientific idea about death is that you cease to exist. Your consciousness disappears and your atoms disperse back to nature This cannot be proven but all scientific evidence, or lack of unscientific evidence, points to this conclusion.

Personally, I just don't understand this whole afterlife business. A part of me wishes, with all my heart, that it could exist - that I could float around on a cloud, playing a harp, talking to my dead loved ones for all eternity. But any notion of infinity is absurd, especially conscious infinity aka immortality.

I thought he was quoting Hui Neng's famous line of "cease running after things, stop thinking about what is right and wrong but just see, at this very moment, what your original face was like before your mother and father were born."

I might be wrong.

I have proof that there's more than nothingness in the afterlife. prepare yourself because what you are about to witness may shock the very core of your soul. This is actual proof there's a afterlife so repent now before it's too late...

I'm surprised at the number of people here who believe in the soul and afterlife. All that makes you you is the electrochemical activity going on in the neurons of your brain right now. As that activity stops your personality, your memories and sensations will cease to exist. Hurray for materialism!

EDIT: holy fuck sins is that some angel upskirt?

Well we wouldn't be able to say exactly what goes on. In heaven (from a christian view) though I assume it is just eternal well-being and happiness. This probably comes down to the fact that you are with God. Happiness and heaven is being with God while Hell and sadness is in the absence of God (rather than some fire-plagued torture cave). I'm not christian though so don't hold me to anything, this is just stuff i've got from debating with friends.

One thing can be certain though, under a christian view to be in heaven is happiness - therefore it does not matter what actually happens as whatever it is will surely lead to your happiness .

However who knows? Maybe we're reincarnated or maybe; just maybe, what we believe happens to us as individuals happens (such as Christians go to their afterlife, Muslims to theirs etc). An idea from reading Terry Pratchett I guess XD.

There's no answer to the question since it's yet to be answered; however, there's perceptions of the possible outcomes. You cannot ridicule an individual's ideas since you're assertion are the same "nonsense' as the next person. Your approach is, "All that makes you you is the electrochemical activity going on in the neurons of your brain right now" which doesn't explain how you're able to have a "personality". You cannot have a consciousness simply with "electrochemical activity" which is why even scientist believe there's a inner core, like a soul if you will, that enables individual thought.

When we die our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. And so we are all connected in the great circle of life.
