Mental development is connected to the physical development of the brain. If the brain, along with the rest of her body, does not develop, she will remain a child.

I think she is in some ways slightly above children of the age where she stopped aging mentally, but overall her experiences aren't enough for her to get much from her current level of mental development.... it is more grim than you think.

Do you really think she cares? Rather, do you really think it cares? Fuck no. The family is just executing whatever emotional acrobatics are necessary to come to terms with the fact that they got fucked over hard by nature -- fucked over way harder than that little big girl. Maybe that's selfish, but my main point is that it's hard to be selfish when one party involved doesn't really possess a self. Even if the parents got fed up and decided to make her someone else's problem, I don't consider that selfish so much as pragmatic.

Now if you would have others leave you as someone who can never be independent, never adapt or learn, have 2-way relationships or communicate - then not curing her would not be selfish. But if you would have others cure you and change these things for you, then not curing her would be selfish. Maybe we disagree on that it thinks and feels. It does think and feel, right? Or at bare minimum, feels?

but seriously, it's strange that she doesn't get any smarter either, as if her brain doesn't allow the learning of new material
