you'd be ok with everyone on the internet to have access to your private pictures and stuff? aside from the privacy concern, i can't see how you could possibly think this is safer than backing your stuff up on external drives. think about it, instead of having the data in your hands and storing it where you think it will be safe, you are just counting on random people on the internet to store it, and pray that they keep seeding it if you have a hard drive failure.

external drives are so cheap nowadays, if you're really paranoid just buy two, backup your external data, and store them in two seperate places

I dunno, I don't see why people would want to download all of your stuff. skronch basically summed it up, it's a very dodgy way of backing up your stuff and storage media is pretty cheap these days.

How much data do you think you'll be trying to backup anyway?

i don't know why anyone would seed that though... that would mean that they would have to have it on their hard drive and take up space... that's stupid. just buy a huge external hard drive. they don't cost much nowadays either.

edit: to elaborate, torrents aren't like direct downloading links. they are peer-to-peer which means that someone somewhere has to have the files in order for you to get it back. most likely you are going to have to seed it and people aren't going to be willing to jump on your boat and seed it "indefinitely" like you think. even movie torrents often run out of seeders. most of the time you see files with hundred of seeders but there's a million more with 1, 2, or even 0 seeders. think about how many games on the TL tracker have more than 1 seeder. sorry, but this idea is fail.

edit2: one more thing. even if you think people are willing to download it, do you really think they will seed it? first off, if its as big as you say it is then people will likely download a piece (maybe 1 or two files in your "collection"). afterwards, they aren't going to cater to your desire to be an online p2p backup service and seed it. no they probably would delete the torrent, watch/listen to whatever file, then delete that too.

Just buy a drive of some sort (flash, external, whatever) if you're that worried. The effort + potential failure involved with your torrent plan is well wort the 30 dollars or so you spend buying a drive.

No one will want to dl it ... if they do they'll only partially seed. And to be honest you probably have stuff that can easily be gotten elsewhere in a smaller simpler torrent dl.

Edit: Just get an external HD. I dunno why you wanna be the uploader and seeder on a pub tracker (I'm assuming this is the method you'll use) and have everything connected back to your IP.

If you plan on doing something like this, i recommend on indexing every single folder into the torrent description, including the movies, names of the bands that wrote the music, and putting all the pictures into individual folders and labelling those, and then describing them all individually. Have fun!

No one wants to dl a bunch of miscellaneous stuff that have no relation to each other. You don't seem to have a firm idea of torrents and trackers in general either. If you're putting something illegal (I'm assuming this is your music/movies/whatever collection) that's your decision, but not a good one imo, especially on a public tracker, and especially if you think this will be a good way to backup data.

If they can get it elsewhere, where there are probably A LOT more seeders, why would they download yours? People don't want to download a clusterfuck of files you have if they can find exactly what they want elsewhere.
