Yeah, it's pretty much nonexistent.
Until some random mod from another sub-community stumbles across some report, then bad stuff happens.

Why don't you guys promote a couple veterans to banlings to keep order there.
Someone that knows when a poster is joking or not, someone that can tell a bad from a good post in lr threads with a simple look, but most importantly someone that is at least decently skilled in the game and actively moderate on balance/strategy whining/discussion/debates.

We deserve it.

Kupo fulfills the criteria among our writers.
Yango as well among simple tlers, r.evo I don't know, haven't played with.

Imo the problem is more that many posters are not yet registered long enough to have the report buttom. I don´t find the LR very bad, especially compared to like SC2 atm (looking at MLG).
But yes, I agree that for me most of all player and caster bashing is quite prominent.

I think Qbek and Gosi would make a good moderating tandem. If not, then probably yango i guess.

I think moonbear, kadaverbb, and gmarshal are overall doing a fine job at the moment overall, any more manpower would obviously be desirable, especially for the strategy forums. The main current issues are mostly the lack of a devoted strategy forum mod/banling with a reasonably extensive knowledge of the game. Moonbear means well and does a superb job as banling but there are some differences between Dota and LoL subforums (such as the issue of patchnotes, since DotA patchnotes are generally much further in between instead of in 2 week cycles and often have significant meta changes that definitely deserve their own thread). Another problem is that any complaints or issues with moonbear in the Dota section becomes automatically exacerbated due to a certain perception of "omg lol mod ruining everything" by some of the readers.

At the moment transparency and slow, gradual, change is probably best.

I think it would be more meaningful to create "Dota 2 strategy forums guidelines" if there are issues in the Strategy forums. There should first be a really clear set of rules if you want to enforce specific rules for that forum (like requiring exceptional quality for guides or keeping discussion to a higher standard than general). The fact that Dota 2 is mostly pub play, which is nothing like competitive games, unlike SC2, makes it a little more complicated.

I really don't think LR threads are that bad, it's nothing compared to SC2. Even "caster bashing" and "player bashing" is ussually quite tame in comparison. Balance whine is a completelly diferent beast compared to SC2 since noone is taking sides, the game being completelly balanced is basically impossible and hero imbalances are not exactly unfair because of the format. I'm not sure it needs the same kind of rule as in SC2 where any complaint about a hero being strong/weak in a LR thread is the right way to do it.

Then there's GD, and that's probally the reason for this thread. I feel it will become like the Automated Ban List or the Ask TL Staff Anything threads, where you know people won't ever fully respect the threads rules/purpose and remain on topic, so you try to set a limit and try to keep the discussion at least reasonably close to a decent level of quality, showing up when things go too far. Trying to go the KMD way and enforce the same posting standards as the rest of the site, perhaps stricter, is really not needed imo. It's mostly harmless.

SKC, we have the guidelines more or less drafted, we just need to finalize them and find a strategy forum capable of distinguishing to properly enforce them imo.

What?

Is it fine to write a guide for a troll build? Discuss builds or anything else that isn't exactly practical at the highest level -cm games for whathever reason but fun/valid for pubs? Some things that are done in pro games are probally not even the best thing to do in pubs for like 90% or more of the playerbase, in most games, if not always.

You realise everything you just said translates into sc2 too.

See guys, we managed to go offtopic and write wrong stuff in a thread in which we are asking for guidance and moderation.
See how badly we need it? xD

Really not in the same way. Compare GM in SC2 to high level pub games. I don't think I've seen many pro SC2 streamers troll around, they are ussually practicing. There isn't a lot of people messing around and just doing stupid shit because it's fun. The tryhard factor is much, much greater in SC2. Even in lower levels people are ussually focusing in improving and always trying to do the best build for each situation. Unless things have drastically changed from like a year ago.

Easy example. 2-1-2 or trilanes? Trilanes are dominant in pro games and hardly ever seen in pro games. In SC2, the strategies are ussually similar to what is done in competitive games, just executed badly (or even executed fairly well, in the case of GM players).

We are currently discussing moderation in the dota2 forum.
I am "fairly" knowledgeable about dota2, at least enough to detect realise someone is saying something incredibly stupid, but I don't want to suddenly increase moderation strictness until we have discussed the matter.

I do agree one banling more would be great for the dota2 forums, specifically the sub forums(d2 general seems fine enough).

Regarding strategy "guidelines" or whatnot, I think they should follow the rules of strategy threads on PD.com(perhaps a bit more strict, since this is TL).

A funny guide is fine. A guide promoting trolling builds is o.k., but it has to be incredibly hilarious and detailed - and perhaps moved into D2general if it's only for its comedic effect.

In fact, I'd say the whole "comedy strategy"(ie. promoting dagon on every hero, for example) should be a D2General material, and an insta-close if it's not really well executed. That's just an opinion tho.

It doesn't require banlings/moderators to be well educated in Dota 2 to do their "job" when it comes to certain posts.

The following recent post has absolutely no Dota relevance yet it is let go because of what reason?

As for strategy guidelines I don't think heyoka has finalized what we had in the works for a while now.

If Dota threads start becoming more and more like the new ABL, I don't even want to take part in it. It isn't hard to stay on topic regarding any Dota related thing. There are so many useless posts everywhere these days. You have IRC and Steam, go spam there as if it's your IM service.

Well you pretty much agree with me even though you don't realise it.
Sure there are ''certain'' posts that belong and are meant to a group of players inside the community that any outsider can see that are off topic.

What happens with the other kind of posts?
The lengthy ''balance'' discussions and the idiotic and plain bad(to someone good) strategy advices?

We both know people have gone way out of bounds to prove their minds, spewing out thread pages that would resort in multiple moderating actions in the sc2 section(princexizor/shikyo etc).

To stop this kind of posting, yes, you do need someone who has being around doto before the first international.
