I've had a question that's been nagging at me for a while and an answer would be much appreciated. I haven't been around the progaming scene too long so if the answer is obvious I apologize. But why is OSL such a bigger deal than MSL? It's worth more kespa points, the audiences are way bigger. And I have no clue why. Also, why is it some players seem to do consistantly well in one league, but in the other they're nowhere? Is it some dramatic change in the format or maps? I really have zero idea.

more money maybe? i'm not sure either. i am just a fan of OSL because there's more players, the golden mouse, etc. MSL has a much better format than groups though

also, savior is said to have an OGN curse, where he is what, on his 5th straight msl final, but can't even make ODT... in other words, he performs badly when it comes to OGN for some reason

Yeah, thats what I'm wondering about. It seems somewhat like the 'weaker' players do better in MSL and all the strong ones are in OSL. Obviously thats not entirely true and I've only followed the scene for a year but all the powerhouses seem to go far or qualify more for osl.

1. When the Kespa rankings were influenced by winnings, OSL had a little more worth because the prize money was more.

Now, OSL and MSL have equal influence on the rankings (plus Proleague)

2. OSL crowds are larger because they have a larger stadium. When OSL used be at COEX (like MSL) the crowds were equal.

3. Prestige... is relative, but it's true that OSL has been around longer, and one can say that it has more tradition. It has also been the main stage for more well-known gamers, such as Boxer and Yellow (who have done worse in MSL than OSL, for no particular reason)

4. Why you don't see Savior in OSL and Casy in MSL: Because qualifiing for any individual league is very difficult. Whether OSL or MSL, to qualify you have to go through offline qualifiers and then the minor leagues to reach the OSL/MSL tournaments. That is very hard to do against top competition, and one bad day/bad map/bad matchup/bad condition will knock you down. On the other hand, once you qualify for a major tournament, you have an advantage for qualifying for the next season. (Whether by getting a seed by placing high or just getting to avoid the early rounds of qualifying).

Thanks a lot Honest :0 I had a feeling some of it might be due to OSL being around longer, which I didn't even know for a fact. Answered all my questions, ty.

Hahaha if that happens just edit ;D.

OSL's been around longer and it just makes for way more history, and I don't know why but it just feels more prestigious.

Is one harder than the other to win? I don't think it is but you notice that MSL has a lot of people who just repeatedly winning like NaDa, iloveoov, and sAviOr. OSL though it is much less rare to see someone repeat as champion over and over again (Save for BoxeR back in 2001). This I think makes OSL a bit more exciting to watch rather than just going, oh this guy's gonna win it again. The OSL has the champion's curse whereas in MSL if you win you kinda stay around.

Whatevers meng, at least they don't cram all the games into a few days like WCG.
Do your best, God will do the rest.

In my opinion osl has always had more interesting players, Also the groups system selection and no lower bracket, makes it very easy to follow. And Boxer does better in osl than msl.

The MSL has been utterly infested by the zergs in the last 5 seasons, which is kinda boring ;;

I have no preference in osl or msl. I root for players not league in which they play. Both leagues produce awesome games. As other said there is trend of dominance of one player in msl, you can`t see that in osl. But msl has been won only once by protoss (rA), while in osl it is more common to see protoss winning it.

Can someone verify does winning osl is worth more than winning msl. I think money prizes are the same, but are osl and msl equal in tearms of points (kespa). Someone said they are not. I really want to know that.
