The Chinese Terran player, Dai " Loner" Yi has been signed by the Chinese team of Zenith of Origin, after a lengthy teamless period following the closure of World Elite, Loner's former home, and a staple name in Chinese eSports.
For those who have not heard of Loner, he is arguably the best Terran player in China - and definitely the most decorated. He had placed second in the BlizzCon 2010 StarCraft II Invitational, having defeated HuK, Sen and even the eventual winner, Genius, in the Winner Bracket Final, only to lose in the Grand Final. However, an even more impressive, albeit overlooked result, is that he placed in the RO16 of the 2010 GSL Open Season 2. In 2011, he managed to retain Code A status for another couple of seasons.
He was invited for TSL3, but fell early in the RO32. He also fell in the first two rounds of the BlizzCon 2011 StarCraft II Invitational, unable to replicate the success of 2010. However, throughout 2011 and 2012, he had a lot of success in his home country, even defeating Moon to win the China 1st 3D Electronic Games.
Towards the end of 2012 however, he wasn't as hot, particularly as he placed 11th/12th in the WCS 2012 China Regionals, thus not being able to travel to the continental finals. Recently however, he seems to be gaining his previous form back through HotS. In IEM Season VIII - Shanghai, he defeated Sting, although he later fell to Grubby, and losing his last match 2-1 against Oz. He hasn't been quite able to break the wall of lag and qualify into WCS America. His next tournament, will be the WCG 2013 China Qualifiers.
On the other hand, Zenith of Origin was recently in the limelight due to controversy, as the manager, former SC2 pro LoveTT - a former teammate of Loner's - misappropriated the team's money, including player salaries. After his removal as team manager, the team seems to be looking to strengthen their roster by recruiting Loner. Zenith of Origin have a teamhouse in Shanghai.

Nice write-up, Mr.Malta. I personally can't read "Zenith of Origin" without hearing Axeltoss pointing out the weight of its name.
Edit: ZoO signing soO would be kinda funny in more than one way

Maybe Africa should be included in that region as well? WCS RestOfTheWorld would be a better name, but that sounds a bit condescending.

You mean should pandatank be included in that region? The answer to that is that he's going for EU

Wait, closure of WE? This is only referring to their SC2 squad, right? Pretty, pretty sure I saw them play in the LPL still o.o

I think it makes sense to have Africa together with Europe, since they are on the same time zones.

Yeah when I read that I had a mini-heart attack. Definitely probably only relevant to their SC2 squad. Don't see WE closing down with all that Tencent money flowing into the LoL squad.

Africa and the Middle East would be better off in WCS EU I think.

Sorry, it was WE's RTS division that closed down. SC2 and WC3. I think they only had Loner for SC2.

Hope Loner can keep playing on this team and not have to worry about that lovett drama :o
