Introduction:

Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.

The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.

Rules:

Cheating:
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town.
3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles.
5. Posting screenshots of your inbox.
6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host.
7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account.
11. Breadcrumbing the specific phrasing of your role PM. Do not compare the phrasing in your role PM to prove your alignment. You can claim the abilities you have, but you can't use the specific phrasing of your role PM.
12. Posting a false role PM phrased as if you received it from the host. You can still fake roleclaim, but you cannot make it look like you are posting a PM you received from the host.
Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.

Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything.

Inappropriate posts:
If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Flamewheel, or Mig before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally.

Reporting posts:
The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, Flamewheel, or Mig before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.

Ban discussions:
Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.

Play to win.
This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.

This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game.

Out of thread communication:

It is common for mafia (and town circles if PMs are allowed) to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Please be mindful that other players may be more tech savvy than you and they may attempt impersonate members of your team or attempt to infiltrate your chat. You use these media at your own risk.

Voting rules:

1. Voting is done in THIS thread. Do not PM me your vote. Standard majority rules apply.
2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote: Qatol. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance.
3. No conditional voting.
4. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game.
5. Majority vote: The person with (players / 2) + 1, rounded down to the nearest whole number, votes, is killed.
6. Voting is mandatory. You may not abstain.

Game-specific rules:

Modkills:
This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM Flamewheel or post in the Ban List.

Replacements
This game uses replacements. Replacements will be made in the game up to and including Night 2. If a player is modkilled during the designated time, then they will be replaced by a player on the replacement list.

Clues:
There are no clues.

PMs
PMs are not allowed in this game.

Time Cycle:
This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is 00:00 GMT (+00:00), but that is subject to change. Actions/votes will be accepted up to and including the posted time, but not after.

Titanic Mini Mafia: Possible Roles

10 Honest Men (Town)

Third Class Passsenger (Vanilla Townie) - win when all ruffians are dead

-You are in third class. They put up those nasty grates because of some nonsense about immigrants and disease, but you aren't having none of it! No sir! Your fellow passengers have broken through the wrought-iron bars with a nearby bench tied to a fire extinguisher, and now you are free to find a boat! However, you overheard some people talking about killing passengers to secure the lifeboat for themselves, and some of those people might be in your company! Find these ruffians and "accidentally" push them into the water by majority vote, and secure the boat for honest ~~men~~ women and children and maybe men.

Prepared Third Class Passenger (Veteran)

-You are also a third class passenger, but unlike your cynical friends, you believed the poor fellow who came around and told everyone to put life jackets on. In fact, you stole the life jackets of others so you could later tie them around yourself and build a small raft. If someone pushes you off, while it will be rather nippy, you will live and comfortably be able to shout discussion towards your confederates still on the ship. The ruffians may still choose to shoot you. You win with the honest men, either the regular way or when the boat comes down to pick you up off of your raft.

Lynching is insta-death, even if the Vet still has two lives. If the Veteran gets lynched I will write the story to account for the fate of the raft.

Travelling Constable (Cop)

-You are a constable. Being a former guard for multiple stadiums and helping control hundreds of early-20th-century football riots, you can tell who is a ruffian if you can get a good look at him. Unfortunately, you need silence to make these deductions, hence you will only examine if a single person is a ruffian or not when the crewmen fire a flare and everyone falls silent for a few minutes (nightphase), and conveniently learn their allegiance just as discussion resumes. You win with the honest men.

Lifeboat Operator (Doctor)

-You were supposed to help load the lifeboats but somehow you got stuck handing out life jackets on F deck. No matter, now you are in the right place, just not at the lifeboats! While you attempt to find out the ruffians who are throwing your passengers off the boat, you have with you one spare lifeboat hook. You may hook this hook (lol) up to any one passenger while everyone is distracted by the flares (nightphase), and if that person is pushed off, the hook will hold them onboard. You may not use the hook on yourself since nobody can pull you up. You win with the honest men.

Both you and the target will be notified of a successful save.

Suspicious Passenger (Vigilante)

-They said that you had to unload your pistol and stow away the bullets until the end of the voyage, but nobody found the lone bullet lodged in your rectum. After cleaning it off, you now have the single bullet in your revolver and are impatiently moving towards the lifeboat. The ruffians shall not target you today, oh no!! If you see someone who you think is a ruffian, you may shoot him in the face at any time and he will die. (The Vet dies as well!). You win with the honest men.

4 Ruffians (Scum) - win when they outnumber honest men or nothing can stop that from happening

Football Captain (Godfather)

-You used to lead a team of footballers until you flew into a rage during your last tournament and kicked the referee in the crotch. Now you are banned from tournament play and are looking to start a new acting career in the US. The policeman was your old drinking buddy, so he cannot bring himself to allow the honest men to push you off in retribution for any reason. When everyone is silent and distracted by the crew firing flares (nightphase), you and your confederates can quickly push one honest man off of the ship. You win with the ruffians.

First Class Passenger (Roleblocker)

-You have money, lots of it. And while money may mean little on a sinking ship, you and your fellows are headed to a lifeboat! On the way there, you may generously donate some of your vast fortune to another passenger. They will be too preoccupied with the money to do any actions while the flare is being fired. However, they will pocket the money and carry on afterwards, so you will have to donate more money. Calculating the amount of money you can give out without worry, you can donate no more than one stack of bills per flare. Vigilante will only be blocked during the nightphase. You win with the ruffians.

Pickpocket (Janitor)

-Somehow you have managed to steal one of the crew's flare guns and a flare to shoot. During any one nightphase, you can shoot off this extra flare and distract the crowd while a passenger is dispatched. This will prevent anyone other than you and your fellow ruffians, who are observing the crowd, from knowing what role the passenger had. Alternatively you can shoot a passenger with the flare. It will have a 50% chance of going off and dispatching them. You may use the flare once, either for distraction or KP but not both. You win with the ruffians.

You may clean a person for the night-kill. If a person is night-vigged, they will be cleaned and their role/alignment hidden instead of the night-kill. Nothing other than their name will be revealed to town.

Ruffian (Goon)

-You are a delinquent who somehow bought himself a third class ticket to be a delinquent in New York. The other Ruffians promised you life and money, so you went along with them. Each night you send in the order to push someone off the ship. If you are dead, the order of succession is Godfather -> Roleblocker -> Janitor.

The Story So Far

(Day 1)

12:00 AM
Monday, April 15, 1912

As they had feared, the worst had happened.

Captain [UoN]Sentinel and architect Aquanim both went down to see the damage in person. The iceberg had punctured six compartments, and all available engineers were struggling to pump incoming water out of the seventh.

But their efforts would be in vain, Aquanim said grimly. The ship was not meant to endure this much flooding. We must evacuate while we can. But Sentinel was not listening anymore. He seemed to be unable to do anything at this point.

"Sir," Aquanim said quietly.

"The ship was not to endure this much flooding. We must evacuate while we can. jrkirby," said Sentinel. His chief officer came forward.

"Start the evacuation." Saying no more, Sentinel stood up, took his bottle of whiskey, and left the room.

Aquanim went belowdecks, and disappeared. Kirby went up. Quickly crossing the highest deck of the ship, he relayed the captain's orders to his men. Sentinel seemed to be useless at this point anyway. He would have to take charge. Assigning his top two officers to take command of each side of the boat deck, Kirby donned his personal lifejacket, and went to look for the box of flares.

Meanwhile, Aquanim was in the interior, spreading the word to the downstairs crew members. Most of them had been skeptical. Those who had, Aquanim directed to the cargo section to see for themselves. What duties did they have at midnight, after all?

12:15 AM

They had been quickly woken and told to head up to the boat deck with nothing but their life jackets and loved ones. And what had it all been for? A metal grate.

Here stood Palmar, trying to calm everyone down. Unfortunately, these people were all about to die. Some of them even knew that. How was he supposed to tell them the truth? That they hadn't been inspected for foreign diseases like malaria, and letting them out was risking the contamination of the other two classes? Palmar wasn't a great people person, and relaying this to a crowd of desperate people would be impossible for normal men.

Dangling the keys outside the grate and giggling probably didn't help his cause.

All was contained though, and that was the best they could do for now. Until, of course, two retards picked up a bench. Then more grabbed on to it. Soon, a whole crowd of third-class passengers was using the bench as a battering ram.

"Oy! You lot! Put th' bloody bench down and shut th' 'ell up!" For in this story, Palmar was not an Icelandic badass, but a stereotypical dirty Englishman with the corresponding sloppy uniform and approximately fifteen teeth.

"Open th' fockin' gate!" rang a similar voice. "I'm supposed to be on the boat deck puttin' all o' you on th' lifeboats!"

"You! Good sir standing behind the gate! Come here!" spoke another, slightly more educated, individual. "You look like a ruffian to me, lad. This one here, too, with all the life jackets... where've you been stealing those from, sonny?"

The one he was looking at now said nothing. Suddenly, a man started babbling, clenched the bench with white-knuckle hands, and led the charge with such force that Palmar jumped at the impact. This man also had no pants on.

"By George," said another quasi-British voice, "he's got a bullet in his bunghole!"

Palmar gritted his remaining teeth. "SHUT. TH' 'ELL. UP." He whipped out a silver revolver. But if he hoped the gun would pacify the passengers, he was mistaken. The crowd, with one final effort, rammed the bench directly into the lock holding the grate together. It flew open, and was put down as the crowd raced forward.

He fired.

The crowd surged, not pausing to see who had died. They had forgotten all about the dead person, or the person who stood in front of them. They rushed to join the others who were in line to board the lifeboat. Above them was safety, the only route off of this sinking ship. And that was all that mattered.

Palmar, the Incompetent Crewman has been trampled!

(Night 1)

12:30 AM

The first lifeboat dropped with twelve people onboard. Twelve, in a boat meant to hold sixty-five. Vivax looked on with contempt. If the boat had waited for more, maybe they could get a boat without pushing anyone off. Just some unpleasant people to endure while we all wait for rescue.

There would be more.

Meanwhile, the eyes of suspicion were gathering around Paperscraps. “Maybe ‘e’s one,” came a voice. “Maybe we should just push ‘im off for th’ ‘ell of it.”

“Do that, and you’re no better than them ruffians!” came another voice.

But the sentiments of the first speaker were more prevalent in this crowd. Two men began shoving Paperscraps around, leading him closer and closer to the edge of the boat deck.

“Gentlemen, restrain yourselves!” cried the second voice, to no avail. A third joined in, with a nervous Paperscraps taking step after step to gain distance. But soon there would be no steps left to take. Those behind him made way so they would not be pushed. Vivax, still looking in contempt at the lifeboat, dodged a funny-looking man who looked ready to liberate some space on his destined lifeboat.

Then Paperscraps looked up. His eyes were followed by Malongo, and the funny-looking man, until even the attackers were starting at the white flares that jrkirby began shooting from his gun. They echoed in silence, briefly illuminating the nearby ice floes and the mirrored surface of the still ocean. And then they faded, winking out and joining the stars above.

But there were more, with the Chief Officer diligently firing flare after flare, hoping that help would come. It had to.

Paperscraps breathed. Slowly, he would edge into the crowd, into a less precarious space, while everyone was still looking at the pretty lights. The flares had saved him.

Shuffling through, he came too close, with one of his previous attackers feeling the panicked breath of Paperscraps on the back of his neck. Disenchanted with the chief officer’s distress signals, the large man elbowed the man standing behind him. Paperscraps, caught full force by the impact, never had a chance.

He flipped over the low railing of the boat deck and fell into the dark ocean below. Nobody heard the splash.

Paperscraps the Third Class Passenger has been pushed off the boat!

It is now the nightphase. Send all night actions to Aquanim, jrkirby, and Sentinel (banned users can still receive PM’s). Nightphase ends in !

12:40 AM

While Vivax had gone back to starting indignantly at the lifeboats, someone came behind him and silently pushed him off the boat. As the flares subsided, people erupted into a hubbub and with many shouts of “good sir”, began to have fistfights with each other.

Vivax the Third Class Passenger has been pushed off the boat!

It is now Day 2. With 12 alive it takes 7 to lynch.

Is it plurality of majority voting? Plurality is implied by the voting rules, but majority is mentioned in the setup information.

Made edits to the doctor and janitor roles in the setup post.

Doctors/victims will be notified upon a save.

The janitor can clean whoever dies first during any night, whether it is a night-vig or a night kill.

Just to be sure, the veteran can practically not be lynched? If he has a majority on him at deadline it'll be like a no-lynch and he'll be confirmed town?

Veteran dies just like anyone else. I suppose I should fix the flavor on that one too.
