For anyone interested in playing again, tastyspleen.net has put together a freely distributable Quake II installation package: q2s.tastyspleen.net You can play through the original single player demo, or use the included server browser to play online. Visit q2servers.com (which is maintained by Team Liquid's R1CH) to get an instant look at currently available servers to play on. Here's a video of some online gameplay: | ||

The server browser will show you servers from all over the world, so you'll need to make note of the ping / RTT time it lists when choosing one to connect to. For best results you'd want to find a server where you have 100ms or less. | ||
