You got to remain in Code S quite easily.
I lost a lot recently. My MLG results weren’t good. I was discouraged but I’m glad I got into Code S with a 2:0.
In the first game, you went for a Zergling-Baneling all-in.
Maybe I’ll call it a style change? Lately, Terrans have been very openly audacious. And the map (Entombed Valley) isn’t that good so I went for it. Fortunately, my build was appropriate so it went successfully.
Second game was a victory of flawless expertise.
Before I even got to the studio, I thought I couldn’t lose game 2 if I manage to play a macro game. I figured I’d win if I don’t fall victim to a weird early game strategy.
It seems like you would be lacking practice due to your trip to MLG.
I arrived in Korea yesterday. I grabbed Happy and the other kids to mainly discuss builds to prepare. I usually think about builds a lot, so I didn’t have a problem with the amount of practice.
How fatigued are you?
I’m still suffering from jet lag. That’s why I slept all day today. I woke up around 2pm and I felt refreshed.
What is your prediction for the finals between DRG and Genius?
Honestly, I think DRG will win 4:2. I’m cheering for Genius as well, but I saw DRG’s ZvP at MLG and it is good.
You are one of the few players who haven’t dropped from Code S.
I’m proud. I want to continue being Code S for 20 seasons. Although constant participation is important, if I’m not winning, I feel like there is no meaning.
As if you’ve made a promise with Mvp, after the 3rd GSL title, you’ve been in a slump.
I don’t want to make excuses, but lately I’ve been impatient once I’m sitting in the booth unlike in the past. Then I get impatient throughout the game and I zone out. I’m not sure of the reason myself so it’s a little frustrating. It’s something I have to overcome myself. It wasn’t serious today, but I was a bit spaced out. Going forward, I have to try harder. During practice, I almost never lose, but oddly enough I get hasty when I get to the studio.
Who do you think will win for the 4th time?
(After a big sigh) I have to do it before Mvp. He’s still young so I want to achieve it and make room. I think that if either of us win for the 4th time, other people will get motivated and start catching up.
You are ahead of Mvp in prize money but behind in point ranking.
I don’t care about point ranking. My thirst is for winning.
Is winning the next Code S championship your goal?
Of course. My goal is always to win. It won’t be easy, but if I don’t get impatient in the studio and display my true skill there’s a definite possibility.
If there are any last words you want to say...
I want to thank IMHappy, IMYoDa, IMdreamertt, and ZeNEXLife for helping me practice. I also want to thank Hwanni for helping me out at MLG. He took really good care of me in the States. I had a great time as he took care of me and bought me food with his own money. Coach (Kang, Dong Hoon), you are probably very tired lately but stay strong. Lastly, IM fighting!
