Just played a guy and at the start of the game I gave him a "GL" to which he responded "Fuck you"
So I ended up losing to him and didn't bother GG'ing since he said that earlier. He messaged me after the game and essentially cussed me out for only saying GL and not adding in the HF. He said only saying GL implies he needs luck to beat me and it's just plain rude.
I think "GL" is fine, i think it's still good manner and I think this guy is crazy.
So what do you guys think, should it always be GLHF or is a simple GL fine?

Who cares.
Mod warning removed.

Just give a KL HF. For extra kangaroo luck.
In all seriousness, just say whatever you want. They are probably gonna BM you whatever you say if they BM you for just leaving out HF.

He is pulling your leg and just being ridiculous to mess with you, Gl and glhf are both fine.

It's just somebody looking for an argument. If it wasn't that, it would have been something else. Trolls abound on bnet.

GL is fine. Some people just want to see the world burn...ignore those people.

Here's one persons perspective on this that I know IRL. He only responds with GL if someone else says GLHF, he intentionally leaves off the "HF" for whatever reason. Knowing this person, I feel he intentionally leaves off the end because he feels superior and is giving you luck to beat him. Sounds egotistical I know, but I can see where this guy is coming from. Did he respond the right way? No, definitely not. I don't take GL as a sign of "I am better than you, good luck beating me" but it pisses me off knowing my best friend does it in this way lol.

lol...just say whatever you want...who cares what he thinks.

omg why come op with a topic like this lol? who cares if you say gl or glhf..
|
Its fine... People seem to take gl hf way to seriously.. Who cares, you play random people anyways.
|
I only ever say HF, why the fuck would I wish my opponent good luck?
|
ive been making a conscious effort to glhf and ggyo every game. really hate conflict with other people on bnet cuz it always puts me on tilt and fucks up my play for the next couple games. theres a lot of people out there who will take any tiny opportunity to just stir up shit and make you mad, and none of it is worth it.

Come on now we have had many of these threads, he was just messing around with you its the internet.

there really isn't a difference. if there are people who nitpick between the difference of glhf and gl (and even glhfgg), then they're just individuals looking for any reason to be rude. you'll always manage to offend them in some way.
and if you really did mean gl in some condescending way then I'd still think a "fuck you" is still uncalled for as a response.

only say hf
let me guess.. you play Toss only guessing from experience, my Terran and Zerg friends never get such random and pure hatred on ladder.

I think people over react a lot to the whole GLHF and GG thing. If you dont want to say HF you shouldnt have to. The fact that he responded to your polite GL with a Fuck You and then proceeded to BM you after the game should give you a good idea of the maturity level of the person you were playing. Just ignore the guy and move on its only a video game play it the way you want too not the way other tell you too.
|
I don't say anything, but I'll reply in kind if my opponent says something. Personally I think its largely overblown, especially the impact of saying gg or not, especially on ladder.
Only GL can be seen as rude, but the guy took it too seriously... if you really care about these pleasantries I'd just go the extra mile (2 letters), you never know who your playing against.
|
I wasn't paying attention so I don't know what happened for sure. But on Mana's stream the other day I think he just said 'hf', and his opponent got angry, and Mana was just like 'why would I wish my opponent luck?', so his opponent just quit the game straight away.

Yeah exactly. I know people are just trolls and tend to be rude just because they can. I just wish more people would play the game and have fun and not do their best to either piss someone off or be rude just for the sake of being rude.
When Idra does it, he creates drama and tension and it adds to the tournaments he's in. When random people do it on ladder it's just stupid and people just end up on ignore lists.

Why on earth would you get warned for that....
The argument is like asking how you pronounce tomato.
It adds nothing to the site, and the thread should be closed.
