Maps
================

•All matches must be started on the map listed on the player bracket above the current round being played.
•In a 'best of X' series, the loser chooses the next map to play from the map pool.
+ Show Spoiler +
NA Map Pool:
+ Show Spoiler +

EU Map Pool:

MLG Xel’Naga Caverns, MLG Metalopolis, ESL Shakuras Plateau, MLG Shattered Temple, MLG Tal'Darim Altar, GSL Crevasse (Official), GSL Xel’Naga Fortress, GSL Dual Sight, GSL Daybreak (Official)

•All maps played on must be the exact name shown, letter for letter, no exceptions.
•If your opponent hosted on the incorrect map it's your responsibility to leave the game at once and contact an admin. Failure to do so may result in the game being counted even though it's not the correct map.
•Each map in the pool may be played once per series. Maps may not be vetoed by either player.

No-Shows
================

•All players should make an effort to be in one of the Playhem sc2 channels (Playhem, Playhem2..) when they are participating in a tournament, however this is not mandatory.
•Should your opponent be missing, you must attempt to add them to your friends list by the character code on the bracket and message them, if they are unresponsive or offline you may contact an admin according to the following:
•If your opponent is offline/unresponsive for 15 minutes after the start of the tournament OR 10 minutes after you were due to face them in any later round after the tournament began you may report a no-show to a tournament admin and be advanced.
•Reporting false no-shows in an attempt to get a free win, or not taking the appropriate measures listed above may result in disqualification from the tournament.
•Some exceptions may be made for players that are forced to delay their games and ask for an extension before hand so long as it's within a reasonable time frame, players should try their best to accommodate the other person if possible.

Observers & Casters
================

•All Playhem Admins and official streamers MUST be permitted into your game if they request it, failure to comply with official streamers and admins of playhem may result in immediate forfeit.
•If you are unsure if a caster is an official member of Playhem, you should contact an admin to ask at once. Official casters will generally be accompanied by the account "PlayhemTV".
•Observers are permitted in games as long as you have the consent from both players in the game.
•A player may ask an observer to leave the game at any time for any reason (suspicion of cheating, lag, etc).
•If a game is started with an observer that you did not want to permit in the game, you should leave the game immediately at the start and ask for a regame.
•Failure to remove an observer from a lobby when another player requests it may constitute a technical no-show as the other player may refuse to play the game.
•In the event that you permit a non-official caster or observer into your game, you do so at your own risk and waive any right to dispute the game outcome due to stream/observer cheating.

Smurfing & Leagues
================

•If an admin determines that you own an account that is of a higher league than the tournament you are playing in, or that you were previously in a higher league, you may be immediately forfeited from the tournament and/or banned from the site.
•If you are consistently winning a low league tournament, or haven't been promoted due to Starcraft II's MMR system, you may be asked to not play in any further tournaments until you are promoted to the next highest league bracket.
•An exception to this is the Open tournament, players of any league may participate and use any account regardless of their main account's ranking.
•In the event that you suspect your opponent to be a smurf, you can report your opponent to an admin after playing all the games of your series (unless there is substantial and obvious evidence).
•If an admin disagrees with your report, we ask that you respect the decision and accept it as a loss. We will do our best to catch any and all smurfs but we stand by "innocent until proven guilty" and go to great lengths to not ban innocent players, even if they are suspicious. Please keep in mind that in a tournament, there are bound to be players that are simply better than you.
•In the event that you are playing on a secondary or new account, an admin may ask you to provide a profile link to your main account for review. Failure to comply may result in disqualification if you are under suspect of smurfing.

Disconnects
================

•Disconnects in most cases will count as an immediate loss within the criteria outlined below:
•If the disconnect happened in the first 4 minutes of the game and no contact between the two players has been made (scouting, cheese, etc) then the game should be replayed. Once a player has scouted their opponent, disconnects will count as a loss.
-Scouting constitutes vision of any portion of the opponents base/units/structures/spawning location. In the event of one player being random, indication of their race also counts as being scouted.
•If it's obvious that your victory was imminent and definitive before the disconnect happened (ie. you were finishing off his base and he had no army left), contact an admin immediately and a decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
•The player who did not disconnect may offer a rematch after any disconnect at their own discretion, this is NOT mandatory and entirely up to the player to decide.
•If a disconnected player does not return to battle.net within 5 minutes, you may report him to an admin as a no-show and get a walk-over for the remaining game(s) of the series if applicable.

Misc
================

•In the event of a stalemate game / tie, the game will not count as a win for either player and should be replayed on the same map.

Disclaimer:

Any admin can overturn or supersede these rules at our sole discretion, this will typically not be done except for extraordinary circumstances. If you disagree with any admin's ruling you may politely argue your case and ask it to be reviewed by another admin. These rules may be changed/updated at any time without notice, check back frequently to stay up to date on current rules.

Instead of hosting smaller tournaments for each league group every day, we're hosting larger tournaments (with larger prize pools) a few times a week.

Wait... from what I'm understanding (looking at just Master's tournaments)

You went from 5x $30 + 1x $100 to now just 1x $50 + 1x $100? What happened to daily tournaments

You have to also factor in Stim.TV's tournaments though because we're now partnered with them and sponsoring their prize pools. So the Master's tournaments for example have gone from 5x $30 + 1x $100 ($250) to 1x $50 + 1x $100 + 1x $100-$150 ($250-$300).

We still have tournaments 7 days a week, we've just changed the schedule to have larger tournaments with bigger prize pools for each league group a few times a week instead of having smaller daily tournaments.

I'm new to this so I'm confused how the point systems work. We have to buy into a tourney using points? Besides the starting amount of points a new account gets, how do we get more points? Also, are the prizes for top 3 finishes rewarded in points or money?

I tried looking around the website but couldn't find much info on this.

Its a bit unfair to put Masters with GM into same tournament. What would be fair, in my opinion, is to have Masters with Diamond where skill gap is not as big as between Masters and GM. That's just my opinion though

Yeah we'll still do those, there's one registering right now actually =D http://playhem.com/#!/tourney/10052

Yeah it's kind of confusing right now, we're in the process of making better FAQs on the site and things like that. If you check out our original TL thread here there's a whole section on points. It's pretty easy to get more but if you do run out, just let me know and I'll give you more it isn't a problem, points are completely free. And all "cash prizes" are in fact cash prizes lol, they are not paid out in points. The reason the tournaments are point buy-ins and show points in the prize pool is so that they're free to enter, instead of having any kind of cash buy-in.

To be honest man, there really isn't a perfect way to do it. If I did what you're suggesting, we would have the problem of Diamonds feeling that they have no chance at winning, and also have a hard time getting enough players for a GM only tournament. We're trying to come up with a better way to divide the leagues to give everyone a fair chance at winning, but right now I think the way we have it is the best it can really be done for now.

No... actually the total weekly prize pool for masters dropped from $260 to $250. ASCWeekly used to have $10 tournies on Thursdays, now it's up to $100. I don't know where you get $100-$150 from. So we went from

(5 x $30) + (1 x $100) + (1 x $10) = $260
to
(1 x $50) + (1 x $100) + (1 x $100) = $250

Partnerships are great, but I feel like you're moving in 2 wrong directions. First, I loved the daily tournaments, I'd much rather have the small daily ones than bigger once a week ones. The daily tournies are what set you guys apart, now you're just going to be like any other weekly or semi-weekly cup. The second is the fact that you're catering more and more to lower leagues, and offering them pretty ridiculous prize pools. I understand that you want to give incentives and attract lower level players, but these incentives do not need to be this big. You're pretty much just rewarding bad players now.

I think it's unfortunate that you're looking at this in a negative way man. I understand that some players, like yourself, would prefer daily tournaments, but I don't think it's fair to say that now we're just rewarding bad players. Nothing is permanent right now; our schedule and prize distribution are always going to be dynamic and in fact we do plan to try it different ways and see what works best. If a lot of players are saying the same thing, that they'd rather have smaller dailies than larger semi-weeklies, that's how we'll do them. You can give feedback without being so quick to go into bash mode man. See:

I can say for sure right now that there will be changes. Will they be for next week, or for the following week? I don't know - that's where we're at right now...we've already announce this event, and so we're not sure if we want to go and change it on people. That being said, many people are not happy with how much we're giving to the lower leagues.

We'll have an announcement shortly

Thank you all for your support, your love, and your criticism...we need all of it in equal portions in order to grow. Wow, that was profound...someone quote that!

I apologize if I sounded harsh, I didn't mean to bash you guys. I love both playhem and ASCweekly, and have enjoyed playing in your tournaments for the past few weeks. They were all very well run and I was impressed by the admin/support from both sites.

But I'm just being honest in my criticism, feedback, and suggestions here. Your advertisement of an "increased prize pool" is very misleading, because as I said before, your total prize pool for masters level has actually decreased. Instead, all of the additional prizes went towards lower leagues. How is it not fair to say that you're rewarding bad players now?

And I really hope you reconsider daily tournaments. I'm sure if you asked around many players share a similar sentiment. There are tons of other weekly $50-$100 tournaments out there, so again like I said earlier now you're no longer special. And one reason why daily tournaments are awesome is that those $100 tournaments tend to attract many good players, so the players who are on a level just below them don't really have a chance to win anything, whereas a smaller daily tournament gives those players a much better and frequent chance at winning something.

No... actually the total weekly prize pool for masters dropped from $260 to $250.

See:

Anihc you bring some excellent points. Rest assured that me and the staff are quite restless about the backlash from the community in regards to the lower league prize pools.

Well I do appreciate you giving us your thoughts, it's really the community's feedback that helps us make decisions on things like scheduling and prize distribution. Like I said before, we're always going to be dynamic and things definitely will change in the near future based on feedback and results.
