EPTFirst off, what happens after broodwar that we didn't see? Kerrigan is the queen bitch of the universe, but why does she stop attacking? The answer is simple,being freed from the Overmind let her regain control of her own will. The Overmind's influence lasted for awhile after he was gone, but because Kerrigan had already committed so many atrocities she had resigned herself to a position as an evil, being a non human even after the control wore off. This was a coping mechanism to deal with the pain she would have otherwise felt. It was only afterwards, standing on the wreckage of her former allies, and slain comrades, when she had finally won, that she realized that she actually does have the power to destroy the Terrans and the Protoss. That she actually could do it, all the pieces are in play, all she has to do is move them. The lack of any strong opposition left is the only thing that brings back her humanity, bit it is already to late. She knows Raynor will never accept her again and that she is not a human, so she plans to try and live in peace while ensuring her own survival. For as long as she can.....
Meanwhile what is happening with the overmind being good all of the sudden and there being a "dark voice"?
The only way to logically fix this is that the overmind is a very clever being.
It turns out, he is manipulating the protoss with his vision of the future, to trick them into doing his bidding. The Dark voice is a fabrication along with his supposed using Kerrigan as a way to free the Zerg. This is because the overmind realizes that after he looses control of Kerrigan he will not be able to ever gather enough strength to oppose her, and take over the swarm again, this is because she will sense him in his infancy and kill him. In a last ditch effort of desperation, the overmind conjures up a story that will both safeguard his armies from destruction (being ruled by a Kerrigan that shouldn't be killed for a time) and provide for her eventual ousting by being deinfested, allowing him just enough time to regain control.
Duran actually works for the unborn overmind, trying to make conditions right for him to take over the swarm again. The unborn overmind is a small fragment of the original, hidden deep in the far edges of the galaxy, underground protected by three cerebrates, made specifically just to protect him as an out incase the invasion of Aiur failed. By using Mobius as an instrument to deinfest Kerrigan, Duran is paving the way for the birth of the unborn overmind to take control of the leaderless zerg. But where does Mobius get the artifacts????
But wait theres more, the prophecy that zeratul sees actually is true(it was left by a fringe sect of xel naga who disagreed with what the majority were doing), the Xel Nana are returning to the Korprulu sector! But they come neither to create nor to destroy, but to finish collecting the data from their experiments. (they are a race of super scientists with no human sense of morals) They had calculated that the zerg would have assimilated the Protoss entirely by now, but had not considered the Terrans in their calculations. The Xel Naga had actually planned for the zerg to attack them like they did, and it was really as a mechanism to keep the Protoss (and the zerg as well) in the dark of the actual plan. They were letting evolution breed them an army of super beings that they would be able to control because of genetic information implanted in both species that makes them easy to control by means only the xelnaga are capable of (but only when the information is combined with zerg and protoss hybrids.) The Xel Naga are not warriors, but scientists, not really capable of fighting for themselves. They have a race of slave protectors that does their bidding, the Hybrids that already exist. The current hybrids are imperfect, however and the true ones will have much more power.
The Xel naga do not know anything about the hidden overmind when they arrive in the korprulu sector, and dont really have the forces to challenge the races if they ally (which is likely). For them, the best coarse of action is to remain hidden, and wait for a way to get others to do their bidding. They are very adept at collecting data, and calculate that if they provide certain "artifacts" for the terrans to disinfest Kerrigan then they can forge a new overmind to take the zerg over while she is incapacitated. They plant the artifacts into several places, and manipulate the Tal darin to do thier bidding via some Hybrids. They actually want the artifacts to be found, but they want to remove any suspicion that they are involved at all, so they calculate (which they are extremely accurate at) what the most logical way to do this is, and what will seem to the Terrans as just by the skin of their teeth was actually a 99.999 percent success probability. Since Kerrigan is actually still in love with Jimmy, she doesn't fight him with even half of her power when he is invading Char. This is also a major component of the Calculations of the Xelnaga.
What happens now?
